Kingsaro, Manwood, Statero, Premiero, Belro, Belwood, Prewood, Broughamaro, as with taste, the list is endless.
Like the cars you like, why should you need to justify it?
Dislike the cars you dont, again, why should you need to justify it?
Dollar value is only a valid if you choose to sell, or buy.
If you choose a car because you think other people like it, why?
If you choose a car because you like, great, but who really cares?
Why the dick swinging comp?
Enjoy the hobby & embrace it.

Surely, someone will now have a crack at me for this posting.

Not at all Utility8 I am just sick of everytime I come on here to read whats going on, every second thread has him having a crack at someone. I am done with it and since no one else will tell him the truth I have taken it upon myself to do it.
I may be wrong and to be honest dont know half as much about Holdens as 95% of the blokes on here do but I am sick of it.

AndrewSS, Mine was not directed at anyone in particular. More so, at the replies to the thread in general. You bight, they reply. Read my previous reply. I really have no idea why people get so concerned about faceless opinions, then get bent out of shape over them.
I love the hobby, expensive though it may be, it is great. I cannot remember ever telling anyone that any brand/model/style of car is any better than the next. Might not be my choice, so what, Ill move on.
Im actually stuck on 64 Holdens, but love early Fords of that same era.
Remember, anything of quality is always quality.
Like wise, as a knob is always a knob.

Now watch the replies fly.

Yep, you to can own a HK,T,G tyre shredding 2 door sports car. Monaro ... feel the power of the huge 161 engine coupled with the smooth fast shifting 3 on the tree transmission. Excellent stopping power is provided by 4 wheel drum brakes, non power assisted for maximum road feel. Marvel at the superb handling of the leaf sprung rear end.

For the ultimate thrill of leaving granny for dead at the lights move up to the road melting power of the big block 186S GTS Monaro 2 door with its super strong slick shifting 4 speed gearbox.

Monaro = 2 door sports car .... PPFFFTTT Belmont and Kingswood coupe would have been better than disgracing the Monaro name with poverty pack 6 cyl crap that couldnt pull the skin off a custard. Stock car racing was about all they were good for...Bloody Monoupmonts.

At least Holden picked up their act with the 4 dr GTS Monaro, higher trim level and only available with V8.

Are you serious Sean ?
Are you comparing a HK-G NON GTS to a HQ GTS? How about apples to apples.
4 Door HQ-J-X GTS better as the were only fitted with V8 and a higher level of trim?
What was the higher level of trim between a HG GTS and the following years HQ GTS? HG GTS 350 Manual 300hp next years HQ 275hp So much for trim and V8.
Did you forget about Bathurst 68-69? Didnt see any GTS 4 doors on the mountain taking the flag!
The fact is Holdens were not serious with HQ on as Torana had taken over racing dutys and that 6 cyl LJ was obviously faster than HQs etc. Also where did the radius rods go and the long range tank? No need for these sort of things when the mums picking the kids up from school or getting the groceries! The obvious reason for Holden adding 2 more doors is so the family can have something a little more sporty. So PPFFFTT....to you

MrPink does have a bit of a point. A 308 HQ/HJ GTS 4 door is probably more of a performance/sports car than say a HT/HG 186S 4spd so a better comparison than a base model HK-HG (I purposely didnt include the HK 6cyl GTS due to its stiffer suspension). Just doesnt look the part as well as the coupes. Pinky, I think all they meant though was that the 161 3spd HK-HG Monaro is a bit of a joke as a "Monaro", hence having 2 doors along with the Monaro badge doesnt gel as an argument against the 4 door GTS being not a Monaro. Same argument with a 202 3spd or trimatic HQ LS or 173 3spd HQ Monaro vs an HQ XW8. Which of these is the most desirable or valuable? Id choose the XW8 every day, but in a flash swap it for a HT or HG 308 4spd GTS.

The point is basically Monaro is the 2 door body, be it base model, LS or GTS, GMH diluted it by calling the 4 door GTS a Monaro. They should have stuck to the SS name they used to test the waters. To me a Monaro is the 2 door body, but what is done is one and that is my opinion.

Cheers,
Pete.

Your both right, but the point was made that to be a sports car you must have 2 doors.
I just disagree with that and pointing out the Moanaros with the 186 were an example.
Surely they cannot be classed as a "sports" car.

Today a 186 is hard to fathom as a powerplant in a sports car as it doesnt have much power.
But you have to look at the world in 1968 and leading up to it. When was the HK range concieved? A friend that worked in the design team told me they had HQ locked in at the point when HK was released. Only a guess HK was probably in the design stage at EJ-EH stage as how long does it take to design, test and manufacture?
Anyhow prior to 1968 Holden had only produced 6 cylinder cars and nothing with 2 doors in the sports line up. The HK Monaro was a huge step forward even with a 186 and would have been very sporty then. As for power well a Holden had never recieved a V8 before so it probably seemed reasonably powerful then.
Obviously this had wained a little by the time HQs came out and was dropped as a option in the Monaro range, also the fast sixes were in the Toranas.

I will concede on that point as you are right.
The 186 would have been a sporty car because of the new Engine and its better performance than the 161 hence "sportier.
A 4 door car can still be sporty.
The RX8 has four doors

Then justify the GTS350 coupes, never was a monaro, never wore the monaro name plate & had its own luxury code excluding it from being called a monaro, yet had 2 doors. I also believe early on the Statesman was almost going to be avaliable as a 2 door, would that be a monaro too then or just a sports car wannabe.

Holden didnt dialute the GTS/Monaro monica by including a 4 door version, it kept it alive alot longer than it wouldve if they hadnt & the simple fact is Holden got it wrong NOT to offer a 4 door version from the start, it was marketings short commings that caused that, of which we saw the same with the V2 monaro only being avaliable as a 4 seater.

Here is a HR Coupe.

Notice the twin tailpipes.

Is this Monaro worthy.
