I Bought spark plugs suited by NGK in their product catalogue for a 88 holden astra LD. (product no. BPR6ES-11). The plug gap is 1.1 set by NGK. Now, on the under side of the bonnet, there is a tune up sticker with settings of timing and so fourth. On this sticker, it says plug gap .87. On the NGK web site, is says... The electrode gap is meticulously controlled when a spark plug is manufactured, and due to the very large selection of plugs, in most cases the electrode gap is set to suit the vehicle as recommended in our catalogue. In some rare cases however, a specific electrode gap may be required for some vehicles which is not commonly manufactured. As such the electrode gap may need adjustment, and it is always best to quickly consult you owners manual'. Which 1 do i refer to? are the plugs ok to go straight in? What are they going in, and is it stock or modified? There are many factors to setting a plug gap. Normally, in a stock application, a manufacturer will have it pretty well sorted though.
But personally id never trust anything 100%. |

Ring the Holden dealer and ask them, Id aslo check the gap of the old ones but if you still aint sure gap them to the stickers recomendations and see how it runs .After a few days pull a plug out and look at the color of the porcelain If happy leave it if not open the gap back up to 1.1...HoldenOn Dagwoodone

This was a mistake on the sticker.
These are basically the same engines as used in the JE Camira.
The correct gap is 1.1mm.

At 1.1mm youll get a better burn - if it starts missing at 0.87 then open them up to 1.1mm.
But seeing what Dr Terry just wrote I think you have your answer!!!

At 0.8 mm the idle becomes rough, they run much better at 1.1 mm.
I used to see this regularly, because of the misprint on the sticker.
