Then why has he listed all of the tags. Who needs the trim code on a cut like that. He has made a special point of making everyone aware it has the tags on it. Dodgy as and should be reported

Expensive rust repair section. The interesting part to this is that if it turns back into a Monaro and gets registered with those tags it is all LEGAL believe it or not. The down side for the new owner is the wazza and others will be taking notes on the vin etc and the car will get sh!t canned.

i agree with the first part of your response mr pink, he is doing nothing wrong at all. now about the down side, there will always be people that are experts etc, that will take notes and tell stories, and then all the "remember when" comes into it, then the car gets tainted and un sellable for the millions of dollars they dont make, or an honest car gets restored using parts like the above mentioned front cut, and the so called trimmers and painters that do the job, blab and can it once they have been paid for doing the work!!!

Please we wreck, you know exactly what he is trying to do and its crap. In the future some poor innocent buyer may end up buying a car with those plates on it and not be fortunate enough to have the experience or knowledge that you blokes have and end up with something that is a lie. Nobody deserves that and you know it. There is a thing called morals and ethics in business. If these plates end up on this front end and is rebuilt from parts would YOU try to sell it as a real monaro. I dont understand how any of this can be clean unless you stick those plates on your shed wall. How much do you reckon he would get if those plates were not on the car and it was just a front end for replacement parts sake. Bet it wouldnt be even close to $1000. Its as dodgey as and I hope no one you know ends up with it. Mr Pink you are exactly right, can you imagine buying this car in good faith and turning up at the Monaro nationals in your pride and joy and everyone from this forum telling you over the 3 days what it really is and were it came from. How would YOU feel Buyer beware is the excuse of a crook.

There is a heap of so called dodgey Monaros out there and some of them have won at the Monaro nationals already. People always love a saga and pulling someones car down. As for that front cut/tags, well someone is going to buy it. They are then going to build a car with it as that is obvious due to the current bid as it is well past a rust repair section. Some poor sap will buy it and later find out the truth from a guru. Then the fun starts. If those tags are still attached to that firewall then the sap is rooted, if they are on another firewall then the builder is rooted. My point if the builder is honest (not probable) and its done properly well someone just saved another Monaro from extinction. Caveat Emptor. Edited by user Friday, 5 June 2009 10:22:08 PM(UTC)

Agreed But would you go to the lenghts of using that front piece. If someone does then thats great and yes they have saved it. When does it become unsavable? This one must be close

I would not touch it. Great if you have some skills, the time, the passion and a heap of Monaro spares including a good body tub in the shed. Unsaveable? Yes it is pushing the limits but someone thinks it is still in the realms.

Im sort of on the fence with this one. For example I once looked at a HT V8 GTS body that had half its firewall missing (previous attempt to move the engine back) including the chassis number being damaged. The rest of the shell was quite good. If Id owned that shell now Id happily have bought that Monaro front cut and used it on the shell complete with ID. Its certainly more legitimate in the eyes of the law than simply replacing the firewall and using the original tags for the body (still on the body) with the wrong chassis number. _______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? Hmmm, this is an interesting one - I myself am half way in the middle of replacing the firewall on my Camaro. The original was a botched job as a left to right conversion, so the only way to make it look respectable was to cut the old one out, and fabricate a new one, and as there is little room to get to the dizzy, Ive stepped the middle in by two inches all the way down to the trans tunnel. Now the original firewall has a chassis number stamped into it, right smack bang in the middle of the wall, so Ive cut a two inch square with the number in the middle and welded it into the new firewall, smoothed everything out and now looks like it was part of the original firewall. Does this make the car illegal? I think not - as the rest of the car has everything in place and all numbers are correct. If anyone thinks this is fraud or anything like it, Id like to hear your opinions. Edited by user Saturday, 6 June 2009 12:11:09 AM(UTC)

Yes we know what he is doing and he has every legal right to do it. He is legally selling a HT GTS front cut and the buyer can legally use it to do a sectional repair on their car. If I had a good rust free HT 80337 I would buy that front and use it to turn the car into a GTS. Illegal...NO immoral...YES and NO. It depends on how it is done. If you correctly swap out the complete fire wall and use all the correct GTS parts and correctly modify the body so it is exactly as a GTS came from the factory then whats the problem. I would take heaps of photos documenting the restoration and at the end of the day I destroyed a base Monaro but saved the more desirable and valuable GTS. LEGALLY. Anyone that thinks this is wrong or immoral is a bloody hypocrite. YES... there are plenty of people that will go to these lengths to save and restore a valuable or desirable car. It is the bodgy bastards out to defraud to make a quick buck that ruins it for the true restorers. Below are photos of an early and fairly rare wwii jeep body that the owner basically re-fabricated a whole new body by hand from the cowl back. He used all the correct bits and even went to the extreme lengths of placing the spot welds exactly as per original. The cowl has the body serial number which correlates with the chassis number to identify it.

Absinth you have said you would take a heap of photos and then I am assuming if you were to sell it you would let the buyer know exactly what he is buying. You would wouldnt you. My point is that I dont care what you do with it, but dont try and make it something it no longer is. By informing the next buyer you are acting morally and ethically.

Exactly what he is buying is a restored HT GTS V8 .... This is where all the bullsh!t about not being original or being a bodgy Monaro comes from. A vehicles identity is in the model/body/trim numbers etc and the parts fitted to it, where the body came from is irrelevent. All Monaro bodies are exactly the same shape and made up from identical parts, the only difference between a base Monaro body and the GTS bodies is a few holes drilled differently, a few extra brackets and a different transmission tunnel.... The fact that a part of the body (be it a large part or not) has been replaced doesnt make it any less genuine. Back in 69 you could buy a new replacement body shell from GMH to repair your 6mth old accident damaged 350 GTS HT Monaro, once repaired is it still a genuine GTS? Im sure the owner thought so. If you buy a rusty HK 327 GTS and replace the rusty GTS guards, rusty sills, rusty floor and boot pans, both rusty dented rear quarter panels, rusty beaver panel, rusty dented roof panel and fit 2 Nos door skins....is it still a genuine restored HK 327 GTS or is it now a non original bodgy Monaro? There are very few Monaros out there that retain mort than 50% of the original parts they left the factory with and many more that have barely any of the original parts they left the factory with. Yes I would show a potential buyer the pics and tell him how I restored it but I wouldnt discount the price because of it.

Wheres the compliance plate?
I myself think this is a bit suss. The shell doesnt seem to be too bad rust wise so why such a drastic cut? especially seeing as the roof is a valuable panel in itself, wouldnt you avoid cutting right through it? If this cut was from a HT kingswood, would you even be able to tell? seeing as he has also cut the floor section out as well.

Its a 1969 Monaro Tag Matt ,that explains no VIN Tag . As can be seen by the low body number . I would put my money on it that its a 307 Engined one being that Early. And you can also just see in one of the pictures what looks to be the Chev Firewall Speedo Cable Hole. I may be wrong there as its hard to quite see properly in the photos. It is funny that there seems to be absolutely no Remnants of Verdoro Green overspray anywhere there . Normally when they are down to their Brithday suits you can see some remnants . It will bring good money for sure. And agree with others here , most Monaros have hardly have any of their original parts nowadays . Nearly all the Monaro owners here in Adelaide and interstate i have met are all hiding deep dark secrets about their cars . If you know nothing and want to buy a Monaro these days ,i reckon get in touch with someone who knows these cars well so you dont get burnt . Sad but true. Johnathan . Who cares? If I had a genuine GTS I would roof chop it 40mm, put Valiant tail lights in the back, a WB Statesman front and paint it Ford Acid rush colour. Engine would be a tossup between supercharged V6 or a triple rotor Mazda 20B. http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |
