And instead of hanging fluffy dice from the inside mirror, hang a rubiks cube.

It is funny that there seems to be absolutely no Remnants of Verdoro Green overspray anywhere there . Normally when they are down to their Brithday suits you can see some remnants . It will bring good money for sure. And agree with others here , most Monaros have hardly have any of their original parts nowadays . Nearly all the Monaro owners here in Adelaide and interstate i have met are all hiding deep dark secrets about their cars . If you know nothing and want to buy a Monaro these days ,i reckon get in touch with someone who knows these cars well so you dont get burnt . Sad but true.

All early V8 HT GTSs will have the centre firewall speedo cable hole as it is shared by Saginaw (253) and Powerglide (307). Even once the 253 got the powerglide and 308 was released all V8 boxes utilised that same hole. Only the later trimatic differed (plus 3spd on 253 Monaro).

A lot of the GTs raced in the 70s were rebodied after accidents but still used all the original ID. The people who own these cars now will swear black and blue that they are the original factory cars. So I dont know what side of the fence I would come down on this one...But I would say if the body number is stamped on the firewall the tags should go with the front cut.

Cheers

If it were a newer car that has been stripped to its undies and sold at a damaged vehicle auction it would be deemed a stat writeoff presumably to stop thieves buying the bare shell and bolting the original gear back on to it to sell it as a complete car for big profit.

Im not saying that its right or wrong but why is an older obviously un repairable shell like this not deemed a stat writeoff to stop thieves nicking someones pristine Monaro and changing its identity?

At the very least it should be deemed a repairable writeoff so that the purchaser has to prove that they bought the parts required to repair this car when they present it for registration.

So yes I suppose that I agree that reshelling a classic is ok as long as the donor shell that lost its identity is not a stolen one.

I bet someone in the future is going to be made very unhappy and its a shame.
For me and its only my opinion that car no longer exists as anything more than what you see.

Yes it is a shame that some people will stoop to stealing and then replating a vehicles to make some cash. Ive also seen some ID plates that where very shiny and I suspect new.

I know of a genuine 350HQ coupe that is sitting in a shed because the ID plates were stolen off it, the owner ended up selling all the running gear and interior because he said the car was worthless.
I couldnt see why he could not have got new plates made as the vehicle was registered to him an he had the full cars history including sales records ect. ( Might ring him and make a offer tomorrow) But who ever took the ID plates still wont have the right body or chassis number or even the right block/head/manifold numbers so what was the point.

The plates where stolen in 1998 before the Monaro craze started, the guy loved his car to much to do that.

Not sure what you mean here Mr Pink
The down side for the new owner is the wazza and others will be taking notes on the vin etc and the car will get sh!t canned.

You have been sh!t canning an engine number that I apparently "missed". I do not record numbers with car condition, but if I did what would YOU have me do if this turned up at the nationals and won a prize. My bet is you would sh!t can me for not picking up that it was a re body.

As for all the "another Monaro saved" the only way this is going to save another Monaro is if another monaro is destroyed. What is so special about saving a V8 GTS over some other Monaro? Unless of course you use it to "australianise" an HG Chev Ss then that way another Monaro is saved.

In one word ... MONEY

If you have to sell your car you have a lot more chance of getting back the $40,000 you spent restoring it if it is a GTS than you have if it is a 161 three on the tree 2 door Kingswood.

Why would you want to "Australianise" a HG Chev SS, they are a classic in their own right. Personally I think the twin headlight front on the SS is far better looking than the poxy single headlight front we got....
