Hi there,
Im thinking of putting my overhauled VK commodore EFI 202 Black motor into a UC torana. Just wondering would it be worth the hassles? Would it make a faster car?. Are the UC torana's a good platform to work on compared to a VK? Are they a stronger vehicle?

The VK EFI was strong enough that GMH saw fit to drop the blue 253 because of it - the EFI 3.3L used less fuel, and had equivalent torque & hp.

It is a good conversion if you want to retain a Holden 6.

Me personally, Id be looking at a V6 conversion into it if you want more power, but without stepping up to a V8.

Cheers,

Mick

I tried that in an LX but the bonnet didnt clear the intake. Good motors though, and a UC is a great car to drive. Give them a HZ brake update and they brake and handle like an A9X. Id install an EFI 304 though. Just as easy as a VK EFI and will be similar (a tiny bit worse) than the VK engine.

Thanks fellas for the input,

Ive tried talking to the guys on oldholden.com, but theyre views are very biassed. Most of them seem to bag the guts out of the EFI VK ;(. I brought a VK sedan around a month ago. It has possible high Ks "odo stopped at 152,000", but seems to go faster than any other holden-six that ive ever had. It looks like a good platform to work with. Seems to be very reliable and mostly maintenence free. It does idle quite nicely, but Im really planning on running the motor and box into my UC torana. Part of the reason that I want to do this conversion for, is that I have a fully-overhauled long-block just minus the cam, and the new rebuild looks very strong. 60thou, hq race pistons, 2.86blue head fully rebuilt. Just gotta get the custom cam back. And for the reason that I have the motor and gearbox there ready to do the conversion, it will make a cheap project to finalise. I do like the VK EFI, because for me, it seems to run very efficiently "although apparently very basic", and I seem to have plenty of power & it is also very pokey on the throtle ;).

Hey Rock Lobster,

Thanks very much for those links. Theyre a goldmine of information, and it will definately give me something great to think about, once I get a donor car. I was planning on finalising the build and running it in a UC torana, but because my girl and I are renting private and are always moving around, she and my old man are considering the fact that I should get a real clean VH commodore wagon, and put the conversion into there. I was also considering an original VH SL/e sedan that I can buy cheap, and its all factory and in great condition for its age, but time will tell as to what we will get and do the conversion to.

And also, rock lobster:
Did you get your name from the b52 song??

Just a weird question, I guess!.

Thanks for your help. I would not have got any of this on oldholden.com

Sort of, I dont mind the B-52s, but much prefer diving and catching the critters. Mmmmmm, lobster cut in half and cooked on the barbie, heaven.

I love the guitar riff right at the end of that b-52s song! Its got so much attitude, someone should write a song from it.... just to keep the thread off track ; p
