Has anyone changed there banjo axle stud pattern from HK to HQ ?

Spoken to 3 different diff conversion places, 2 tell me the HK axles hubs are to small to do it & the 3rd place tells me they can do it no problem.

i`ve changed the front dics to HQ already but dont have the funds at the moment to put the 10 bolt under the rear.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

The only way that I would do a stud pattern change for a rear end is with correctly engineered axles of the pattern that you require, then shortened & re-splined. Or brand new, purpose built billet axles. Or, as you are chasing, a factory option type upgrade. Checkout the flange on any early Holden factory axle & it becomes quite obvious that it is too small with nowhere to fit the new pattern studs adequately into virgin steel. If the idea of plugging these holes, welding & re-drilling to get the stud pattern is entertained, no automotive engineer would go near it. It is unsafe.
At least you know that you have 2 diff conversion places that are possibly on the ball. There really is no "cheap" way round it, do it once, do it right.
Dont go to 3rd place!

Did you consider making your HQ front rotors into early holden pattern for the time being? Simple job, relatively cheap, keeps current wheels (if 14" or bigger) until you get the rear end you want. Then, simply replace the modified HQ rotors with standard HQ rotors.
Hey presto, early pattern is now HQ pattern.
Enjoy.

Remember, the cheapest way around the problem is not always the best option. Choose the guys that do the diff conversion carefully. Talk about warranty that they offer etc. I live in Melbourne & had my narrowed diff built about 12 years ago in Sydney by Sydney Competition Warehouse, then shipped down. One warranty issue sorted at no cost to me.
From my experience, I would recommend a call to them. Details below. Enjoy!
