X-Flow 1981 genuine 115,400 klms using Gates drive belts for alternator,p/steering, air cond. all replaced as a set 20,400 klms ago. In the morning during startup when motor is cold (the noise comes from the front)sounds like the fan blades are hitting something whether the motor is at idle or under load BUT the noise disappears completely after driving 1/2 klm. Noise not heard when motor warm. Belts are correctly adjusted, do not squeal under acceleration. Have used Dri Lube twice on all belts but noise persists. Have used a length of dowling as a stethescope on the bodies of the alternator, water pump, power steering for possible bearing failure but no extraneous noises detecterd. Has a viscous clutch fan. What is the cause of this noise ??

I know you have checked them but it still sounds like the belts are slipping until they warm up a bit. I'm stumped.

Remove the belts , start it when cold and see if it does it then.

If it does means its belts or water pump or something

If its not broke it will be soon
