Well my Chassis has cracked pretty badly and its useless cant weld it, so I am wondering is the chassis one piece? Or does it unbolt somewhere near the front? as the rest of the chassis is fine. Going by this photo I found: It looks like it does?

Late HX, HZ or WB all have the RTS upper control arm mount. WB fit but the front bumper bar bracket bolt on both sides doesnt fit. Have a close look at the rails on a WB and youll see what I mean. By now you are probably aware of where they crack ie rear weld on lower control arm rear mount and around the shock "tower" (bit that supports upper control arm and top of shock). You pick the RTS chassis by the top of the front shock. If its central in the mount its RTS. If its towards the back its HQ-mid HX. Also try to grab some chassis strengthening bars too. Youll see them on WBs and some HZs, run from the engine crossmember to near the front cabin mounts. About 1" diameter. Holes should be there on all RTS style chassis for them.
Remember that when you go to re-register it, it will be registered by the chassis so if you use a WB chassis itll be regsitered as a WB. Pretty silly if its a coupe or wagon I know.

Hi, I know this might be a bit of a hijack of a post but you are talking about something I want to know some more about. I have a HJ wagon and I was just looking at something on it the other day and noticed that the chassis is a HX chassis, the number stamped on it begins with HX. The car is registered as a HJ not a HX. I dont know if the laws are the same in all states, but, from what you are saying it should be registered as a HX.
Here in SA the chassis numbers are not recorded on the rego and there are no roadworthy inspections so I really dont know if I could change it even if I wanted to. |

Yep, thats exactly where its cracked, an impossible place to see with the lower arms on. I was changing bushes, pulled the lower arms off and its cracked on BOTH sides. AND it looks fresh, and almost impossible to weld. :( Cool, thanks for your help

Well my chassis and compliance plates had different numbers, and I was able to initially register it. But Im in Vic, but the chassis was still a HZ
