I will be upgrading my 186 motor with a YELLOW TERRA head inc roller rockers, etc. Motor will have lightweight flywheel and pistons. What head would be the best to use? After higher compression, so am considering either 179 or 149 heads. But I want to be able to use premium fuel (98 oct) not have to use avgas or something ridiculous. Will 149 make my compression too high for 98 oct fuel? And will 149 give better performance result than 179?

Hi HG Tank.
179 & 186 heads have the same combustion chambers, so you gain nothing by going to a 179 head.
A 149 head (which is the same as a 161 head) will raise the compression to 10+, which is really a bit high for a street driven car o

Hmmm... Thanks very much for the advice. I was really hoping to get a bit more out of the motor. She's the Premier Wagon, so a lot of weight to move. Perhaps pinging could be resolved with the 149 head and 98pulp by use of a metal gasket or some such? O

I took 40thou off the 202 black head raised the compression to around 10 to 1, never had any problems running on LRP or Premium.
