Worked with a fellow in 1984, his genuine HQ GTS 350 that his brother purchased new had turned into something very simular. Started racing at the lights on a Saturday night, then to the drags at Castleriegh street meets to full drag car.

Was a genuine HQ GTS 350 at Loxton same thing. I saw it at Berry a year before and friend commented on why a GTS 350, but many went through the above process.

You are very right there warren, i know of dozens and dozens of all the model monaros from HK-T-G, then HQ and even some HJS that were made into race cars..they were cheap and already had a SBC, and most importantly, they were "manual" which at the time, was the only way to go

Hahahahaha... mate, it was ahead of its time... well ahead of something anyway! Our American cousins came out here and designed it just for us.

What is uglier is the poor unfortunate HK Monaro which was on ebay for ages, you know the one with the Brougham rear end and the Bro/Prem rear window... classy, aye.

Anyway, Im stuck at home sick... bored... crap on TV and Im not allowed a beer, so stop picking on me!

Could have been the same car, this one was black and had the 4 headlight front. The rear window was just tacked in looked a bit how ya goin from the inside. Actually the bro taillights and bootlid looked reasonable, with a standard rear screen and painted in Inca Gold or another light metallic might have scrubbed up well.

best I ever saw was a HQ coupe with a HQ statesman rear end grafted on, it actually looked like it was factory & very neatly done, the car was originally rear ended & on its way to the scrap yard, so a nice save.

Hi there, This would suggest that perhaps the HQ GTS 350 4-speed is the greatest Monaro ever? It has been the starting point for some of the best drag racing cars and is now so scarce that you just dont see them anymore in original condition. Lina Mint gets the nod for the best colour by the way!

Correct D.A.Barnes, with the ease of fitting BBC and the rear end design which easily allowed a "poor mans 4 link" to be put to use using the original trailing arm set up, many were used as super stock dracers in the mid late 70s and 80s. they can still be had, but i agree with you, its easier to get a HK-T-G than a HQ. Just yesterday, an aquaintance purchased a 1 owner indy orange HG 350 manual car, very very original and in respectable condition, even down to the finance paperwork from preston motors, all for the price of $25k. where will you get a HQ 350 Manual for that price?

Yes they are very rar now, years of neglect and low price, but they are still turning up, found an HT 350 a couple of weeksago, very nice combination (one that I would own anyway) bing restored slowly. Should be ready for next nationals.

Would like to see a few more of the HQ 81837s there, am sure yours will be ready D.A.

Hope to see the one that i found 15 years ago in a ahd here ready in time also, but doubt it.

The wierdst Monaro that I ever found was early one morning a fellow was under the dash trying to get his HQ 4 door GTS going, so I stopped to help and noted it had a 202 NL block. He said he was gong to put a 308 back in one day, but a quick check of the tags, chrome yellow black cloth trim and 350 manual, tape over the original clutch hole and aussie 4 speed fitted.

It was for sale soon after for $1800, but was full of rust, trim had it etc. Last saw it parked up in the back yard rusting away, probably still there today.
