Hi Guys, does anyone know if there was a possibility the early ht broughams came out with 307 engines just the same as the ht prems did?
thanks

no they were never fitted with them. All the pre production cars were 308.

HP. All early 308s had HP on the side. The 308 cast blocks gradually appeared not long after the 308 was made available across the HT range. One guess is as new castings were introduced to cope with the increased 308 demand they had 308 hence the period where both 308 and HP appeared until those with HP were retired. HT Broughams with HP on them will have engine numbers between 308H1001 and approx 308H10000. The 19th Brougham out of Pagewood would most likely have a number like 308H1xxx.

Friends of my Family Had a Factory HT 307 HT Brougham and it had the High Back Buckets . Car was 100% Holden and not a special order and was in Monaco Maroon. I also somewhere here have a photo of a Platinum HT 307 i was parked next to in Charlton about 10-12 Years ago . Another low mileager with factory Paint back then. Have heard of others in "stories" of people who have wrecked them , but these are the only ones i have ever eyeballed personally. Lot of odd cars in Melbourne , with odd combos as i live between the Dandenong Plant and Fishermans bend and i always still today see people who take test cars home with Holden writing on them .

Hmmm. Strange stuff. According to Holden documentation all HT Broughams were 308. Did they get the 308 badges & flags or 5litre flags? Were Broughams Pagewood assembly only?

Has it got power steering? Chevs had a slightly different power steering setup.

I spoke to Ben Stewart this afternoon about another matter and asked himif hes ever seen a 307 HT Brougham. Hed known of one also. So there must have been a handfull of them, like the 4 x 350 HQ Prem wagons and 307 4sp HTs. Officially no such thing, but some were built. Maybe they were all from 1 x plant like the HQs (Dandenong)??

Actually there are a number of things to look for, all 307s have LSD and 308s it was optional, so by rights should have the two LSD stickers if 307.

Front fenders will have 5 litre badges not 308.

Power steering shall have the one piece bracket on LH rail if 307, two piece if 308.

I do not uinderstand why a 307 powered HT Brougham would not be a "special order". The 307 engine was not optional on the HT Brougham, so therefore it would be special order if you had one.

I know that anything is possible, but why would you buy say a new V6 Calais and option lower spec engine on special order? Calais has 195kW engine and standard engine 170kW. (308 was 240BHP and 307 was 210BHP).

Anyway I am stil waiting to see the factory GTS 327 auto that a fellow has.

Not sure on HT but I have 2 Melb and 1 Adel HK Brougham tag pics, the Hg I have is Syd. All the plants seemed to build all the body styles at that stage.

I think it will have to be chalked down as unknown as the diff has been changed to six cyl, no front guards, did once have powersteering but only has the valve on steering arm left, still got its 16.7 box, 6 inch brackets, a massive chunk taken out of the floor pan and also a huge chunk taken out of the front crossmember outrigger, the only thing i can think of is the exit for the speedo cable but that would be the same on a 307 p/glide and a 308 / powerglide, it was running a 350 and turbo something but they are long gone, so fiik. cheers

As a bit of trivia, in Brougham the spare wheel brackets are actually for the tyre width, not for a 6" spare wheel. Youll find these brackets in all Broughams.

Funnily enough Warren, if you look at the "Offical GMH" artwork of the HT done in 2006 by James Bailey, the main sketch is of a HT Brougham with 5 litre badges!! More a stuff up than historical record though!

I also imagine 307 would have to be a special order.

Sydney vehicle assembly, Sydney body construction. If a body was constructed in Adelaide and assembled in Sydney (like a van was) it would have AS instead of SS

Here are a couple more things to check (courtesy of Ben):

accelerator cross-shaft (307 and 308 glide different shaft);
engine wiring harness (if its there);
power steering hoses;
heat shield on RH K-frame leg.
