Gday Everyone.
My daily driver is a VK wagon. The problem Iam tackling next with it is that the drivers door is dropping. It requires 2 hands to lift and open at the same time or i stick my hand through the open window and open it from the inside door handle.
What is required to fix it please?
Is it a case of just replacing the door hinges?(i know it can not be that easy)
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated in this my next undertaking.

It could be that easy. I dont know VKs but chances are you could slacken off the bolts on the hinges and raise the door a little to get it back into line. Sure its just compensating for the fatigue, but unless you want perfection it should work fine. Just keep an eye on the panel gaps.

VKs do not have any bolts on the hinges, they are fully welded. To remove the door you have to knock the pin out. If you door has dropped, and it is not loose by lifting up and down. This would indicate a bent hing, which has to be bent back by pressure. If the door is low, you can lift it with a jack and block of wood carefully under the back edge of the door. If it is high, then you get a couple of people to hang off it. If the pin or pin holes are worn out, you may have to look at cutting off the hinges and welding new ones on, they may be available new for a reasonable price, or rebushing the hinges on there. To knock the pin out, you will need to drop in to a panel shop and they can show you the tool they use. There are cheaper hammer bash type, and there are more expensive slide hammer type. They have been in use since back in the Gemini days, so it is not a new thing. A lot of European cars have this pin removal system.

I agree with Peter but would add that when you jack the door up have the door as near to the closed position as you can. If you jack the door up in the fully open position you are basically adjusting the top of the door inwards as opposed to lifting the back of the door.
