On any HK, HT or HG which has a V8 or a 186S engine (which includes all GTSs), the spot to the right of the w/wiper switch is fitted with a round blank panel. Those with standard 161 & 186 engines have the manual choke located there. Quite often you will see a speaker balance control (for the car radios rear speaker) mounted in that spot. If fitted with an Air Chief radio knob, it almost looks factory, but thats not strictly where it should be mounted. The correct location for this accessory is in the metal panel to the right of the ignition switch, adjacent to the drivers door jamb. It also originally has a chromed acorn-shaped knob.

Quite often, other accessory switches (for aftermarket driving lights etc.) are also seen fitted in the choke blank.

I dont think thats quite right, afaik on hk they were first mounted on a separate bracket under the dash and had the acorn knob and then moved to that panel or the choke space with the matching knobs.

I have seen an early set of fitting instructions which used the old FB to HR underdash bracket. These were an almost universal accessory for all GM-H cars, they also fitted them to Australian Chevs, Pontiacs & Vauxhalls of the era. The acorn knob matches the universal Air Chief & Astor radios of the time.

Ive also seen a later HK fitting instruction sheet for the RH dash mounting still with the chrome nut, but Ive not seen a set of instructions where they say to mount it in the choke blank. Its not common for Nasco to issue fitting instructions which would work on some models in a series, but not for all. In other words if they said fit it in the choke blank spot, what do you do in a normal Premier or Kingswood.

Do you have a copy of fitting instructions that illustrate this.
