Hi there. I have a 2008 Ford Ranger XL (Diesel). It came with two keys and one remote. In an act of what can only be called idiocy, I lost one key and the remote. I called the Ford Dealer who asked me if I had "the little metal tag" that came on the keyring with the remote. I said no. The man on the phone sighed. I have since found out that you're supposed to store this tag somewhere "safe", information that is buried on page 72 of the owners manual, and that which my dealer failed to tell me when i picked it up (despite showing me everything from where the spare tyre was to how to adjust the mirrors). So, I have been quoted around $450 to replace the key, the remote, and labour to "de-code" the car to match the keys since I failed to remove the little tag from the keyring and store it at the local bank.
Has anyone else experienced this, and is there any cheaper options? |

Your Ranger should have come with 3 Keys 2 Remotes and depending whether it is a cab chassis 2 fuel cap keys. The new remote should be programmed. The keys can be copied (in some cases cloned) from the original as I understand it. I will check with my mat

Thanks for your reply, STUSXY351. I definitely only came with 2 keys and one remote. It's not a cab chassis, but a 4-door ute with canopy think. It's actually a company fleet vehicle supplied Fleetpartners by work. I picked it up from the dealer in Me |

Help! After getting over the depression of the pending outlay, I went to Ford to enquire further. Have learnt two things:
1. Turns out the keys are not security coded. They sold me a Ford blank (100 odd bucks) and said to take it somewhere to get i |

And it continues...
Took it to Ford dealer, they found another piece of paper with the right procedures, and trained the remote to the ute whilst I waited.
Quized them on a local locksmith where I could get the blank key that they sold me cut, sent |
