Ive always run Shell Vpower in my car (nicely warmed 202, HQ Kingswood). Whether it's totally necessary or not is another matter, but it runs great. One time i put BP Ultimate in there, full tank, and i felt it definitely ran differently.
My mate puts Ultimate in his XR6 turbo (475hp at the wheels, worked and tuned) and he tried Vpower. One tank and he was over the moon, swore blind that his car pulled as hard with less throttle.
I recently re-tested this theory with an air/fuel analyser. Swapping to a full tank of Ultimate, changing nothing else, i idle half a point leaner, slightly higher and smoother, but the car doesn't pull as hard through the range. This is what it felt like last time so i doubt it's a case of an odd batch of fuel.
Get on google and everyone, in modern cars usually, swears there's little to no difference, even though they are differing fuels and i think refined in unique ways?

Absolutely fuel can make a difference. My previous beast (400SBC powered HQ Ute) I used to fill on mobil gas. Ran fine. One day was running low near a caltex and put a tank of their 95 in it. I thought I had blown something up. Rough idle, backfiring, misfiring, no power. Looked at all the tuning settings to no avail. Couple of weeks later (due to being off the road trying to tune it) did a refill on Mobil. After about a day, suddenly came right. Then Shell bought out their v-max. was even better again.
Crazy

Yes I agree..the older donks run heaps better with higher octane. I have tried em all, and always higher octane was best. The base level 95 was only good for long slow runs. The old 253 ran like a dog with 95. Cheers John

My old VW Beetle runs good on 91 unleaded. The owners manual does say it will run on 87RON. http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |
