A mate has an original 186S, Opel four speed, GTS dash, bench seat, black with black trim HK Kingswood.
It was a special order car built in Sydney. The body number on the firewall is HK*****S.
There is another S stamped in the firewall directly under the S in the body number.
Does anyone know what the second S is for? Could it denote this car as a special order? Or, was the second S put on 186S cars. Ive never seen or heard of it before.
The S is stamped properly and clearly which suggests that it most likely wasn't accidentaly double stamped.
Any ideas or information would be appreciated.

Hi David.

The second letter S indicates the assembly plant, whereas the first letter S indicates the body building plant. In this case this was both in Sydney, hence the second S, but some cars can have their body built at one plant & the assembly finalised at another.

This is the case for all Perth Holdens. Most of those would have an A & then a P.

AFAIK i was this way for HD to HG series Holdens.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0
