hi guys , normally a holden guy , sorry but just brought a 33 coupe , fitted with a nice 302 engine / c4 box
engine number JG37LJ16882K
can someone help explain to me what exactly this engine is and from what originally
also what is the difference and advantages/disadvantages between cleverland / windsor motors
as mentioned have alwasy been a holden/chev guy , so know nothing about ford motors at all

September 1971 Fairlane 500. Windsor is a smaller "V". Coolant flows through inlet manifold. Clevo inlet has no cooling system ports. Clevo heads generally flow better, Windsors oiling system is generally better.

so from the info you gave me would that make it a windsor or clevo ?? did ford run both type of engines at the same time ? if so why ? just form looking at the outside what are the quick easy ways to tell a windsor and clevo apa

Once you're used to them you'll pick them at a glance, the Widsor has a narrower "V", but meanwhile just look at the fuel pump (LHS bottom of the block) Windsor has the old type (repairable)fuel pump with the bolts horizontally aligned, Cleveland has the

Windsor top radiator hose goes into the manifold. Cleveland goes into the block just in front of the head. Both engines have their good and bad points but for a rod I'd be picking the Windsor.

Being a 1971 Model, "XY era", They did come as 302 Windsors and Clevelands. As stated above, the easiest way to tell is if the thermostat housing bolts to the inlet, it is Windsor. If it bolts straight down to the block, It is a Cleveland.
