Calls For Nominations For Major Motoring Award (Rare Spares Legend)

In just its third year, the Legend award, facilitated by leading automotive industry icon, Rare Spares, has already established itself as a premier level of recognition for those involved in Australian motoring. With the award to be announced in January 2010, organisers are calling for nominations from those people fitting of the title; Rare Spares Legend.

The Rare Spares Legend award has been created to recognise the lifetime achievements of those that have given great levels of dedication to the motor industry. Each year an inductee earns their place in the Legend Hall of Fame and receives a number of personal benefits as well as national acknowledgment.

Legends receive their own exclusive gold helmet with the year of the induction and their name sign written onto it. The helmet is designed and painted by well known artist John Kral in a scheme exclusive to the Legend award. Recipients also receive a dedicated full page advertisement in leading publication Street Machine Magazine, along with a professional photo shoot.

The first inductee into the Rare Spares Legend Hall of Fame back in 2008 was hot rod icon, Rod Hadfield. Rod was chosen for his very long association with the modified car community and his development of a huge range of performance items to the modified car community. Rod has also been actively involved at the forefront in street rodding, nostalgia drag racing, salt lake racing and was the founding member of several Motoring Associations (including the DLRA, Dry Lakes Racing Association) as well as building some of the most amazing cars that this country has ever seen.

Earlier this year the second inductee into the Rare Spares Legend Hall of Fame was announced, serial car builder and one of the most amicable people in the automotive industry, Howard Astill. Since building his first modified Ford in the 1970s, Howard has inspired thousands of Australian car enthusiasts at shows and through magazine articles. Howard has won Street Machine Magazines Street Machine of the Year, three Summernats Grand Champions and has spent most of his life committed to excellence in the art of car craftsmanship.

With just three months until the 2010 announcement, the panel of motoring experts that preside over the judging of the Legend award have put out the call for nominations for the prestigious prize. Nominations can be placed directly or via a third party and entry is as simple as visiting the official Rare Spares Legend website - http://www.rarespareslegend.com.au and following the prompts.

Nominations close on November 30th, 2009 with the announcement of the 2010 Legend inductee once again being made at Summernats, where event organisers have provided a dedicated timeslot for the award in the popular Saturday night schedule. The recipient will be paraded via a lap of honour of the main Summernats arena, so that car lovers and industry figures alike can show their respect.
