Hemco was originally in Brunswick, Victoria and made aftermarket seat belts in the 70s, mainly sold through accessory shops. They were not made for specific vehicles but as a general purpose application or suitable for various models. In later life they moved to Ballarat but ADR and stringent testing required seat belts made for a particular vehicle to be crash tested. This meant that they could sell a general purpose belt after having one tested. But if they specified a particular car meant that a belt had to be fitted to a vehicle as listed and the vehicle crash tested. Not a good idea and if there was a fault then it was back to the start. Eventually they changed to making safety and lifting harness type gear.

hemco is still in ballarat, at work we recently brought some lifting straps from them, they still do seatbelts as well i know a guy who needed a seatbelt for his au faclon and a newie was hugely expensive, so he took his worn one off and took it into hemco and got it re webbed (or fully replaced i cant remember it was a while ago), he didnt say how much it cost but said it was much much cheaper
