Its going to be turned into a housing estate.Just the same as Amaroo Park and Castlereagh Dragstrip.

Cheers.

I wonder if the ordinary persons recreational lifestyle will ever become more important than corporate greed? How many other ripe pieces of real estate are being eyed off as well.

Hoxton Park airfield is a classic example, developers had their way with the council and then went broke in the GFC. The council not to be outdone didnt reopen the airport, they tore up the runways to ensure that the debate would not arise.

I was there only a few weeks back for a club meet. Come to think of it, i was there because my mates dad runs the radio system and all the 2ways there. What will happen to his business?

Regardless, its a damn shame to see it go, like the other places mentioned, and Warwick Farm raceway.

Also, wasnt Canberras strip torn down because they "needed" to extend the airport, then they demolished the strip and never built anything or extended at all?

If i remember, the guy who owns the land had the track built, so it was just one way to make money from his land. Now hes started developing it and will make squillions.

But why would you want to live there? Its so far removed. Maybe itll be industrial?

One day the idiots in charge of everything will realise that motorsports is one of Australias TOP passions and passtimes, and provide means for growth. I hope.

Oran Park was always the best track in Sydney, as far as I was concerned, from a viewing point of view.If you sat at the start of the main straight, formerly known as "BP BEND",you could pretty much see the whole track.I have been going there since 1973 and its an absolute shame to see it close because of the almighty dollar.

Cheers.

Can only back up the views expressed by Robbo. I believe the track was built by the NSW Road Racing Club in the 50s. I think the club still exists.Oran Park was,is a great race track, watching the sport sedans and latter truck racing was amazing.Oran Park hosted twilight meetings which was racing in the late afternoon early evenings which was great except the lighting for the track where flouro lights every few metres and parts of the track where dark. Certainly made life fun when you missed your braking marker in the dark on the main straight.Solid front discs, sealed beam headlights,100 watt spotlights, secondhand slicks plus flat out in top gear was a great combination when you lost that brake marker.Eastern Creek seems souless when compared to Oran Park but still wont miss the traffic jam to get out of the place. We seem to be losing a lot of motorsport icons this year.
