Heres one to open a can of worms....

If I have a car I love, but with a colour scheme I don't love, I have 3 options.

Restore to what the plates say regardless and love that it's original, even though not my tastes.

Restore to another factory colour combo that I do love.

Go custom.

What's the opinions?

Cheers

It depends on what you want to do with it.If its a rare car you are probably better off keeping it original. If not, do what you want to do.Its your car so you have to have it the way you like it,not the way others think you should.

Cheers.

its your car do what ya like to it mate, id recomend painting it the color of your choice, that way you gaurenteed to be happy with it

the only time id recomend going by the tag color is if its rare car or color and you were looking at selling it

Paint cost a lot -- go with a colour you love
or custom.

I am also of the opinion that it is your car. Unless you are looking to show it or sell it as original in the near future go for a colour you want.

If someone objects, they are quite capable of buying one for themselves and doing it their way.

It is your car and the only person you have to please is you.

- My two cents worth anyway -

I kind of figure that if you love the car, and like me never intend to part with it, then resale value is secondary. Go custom. Then not only will you love the car, youll (hopefully) like the look.

Hi Shane

Loved them and thank you again for your generousity!!

The Prems Cameo Gold (which I dont mind) and when repainted they added the off white roof (which I also dont mind), but thats not factory correct. Probably going to put an old mans sunscreen on one day, so I think thats cool.

Interiors Antique Gold factory, but the front seats are black, back seats another unidentifiable material and the dash pad consoles somthing else.

So really antique golds the door trims and roof lining, both of which are tired.

So I will need to do the interior and I wont to keep it factory.

My favourites Sandalwood, so I might gradually convert it to that I think....

Then if/when its time to repaint..... hmmmmm???

Cheers

Ive been through this a hundred times or more with my Camaro. The original factory colour is Black, but I love Blue Mist Metallic. The Black looks awesome with the Gold alloy wheels and gold striping, but the summer sun in the car is a killer, as the interior is all black as well. It is a hard decision to make, good luck with whatever you choose.

Dont suppose you can post a pic of your camaro. Ive been thinking a midnight blue type of colour would look perfect on my statesman (think it needs to be a dark car but not black) but havent found anything comparable to look at (colour wise). Maybe yours is exactly what Im looking for...

There are some photos on my home page nzstato, just click on the link of my username. I also have an HQ Chevrolet 350, More over a HQ Statesman, but is an Export model. This car is factory original and is Baroda Silver with black vinal roof. It is a very classy combination.

The camaro looks brilliant. Thats exactly the colour Ive been looking for. The chevy 350 is cool as well, theres still a few kicking around NZ (even one up for sale http://www.trademe.co.nz...isting.aspx?id=249862341) and I know of one that lives around the corner from me. To add to the topic at hand there is no way I would paint my car the factory colour if I didnt like it in the first place. If you consider your vehicle only as an investment and not something you have to enjoy then have it factory original. Im doing up my car for me to enjoy, not car show judges looking for originality or those that recken its worth such and such an amount if I do it a certain way.

Hi All,There is another option with the paint, paint it the color you want but DONT paint the engine bay ,boot and door jambs and its quite easy to return it (it is fairly easy to live with),if you need to.Also if you do sell it ,it is easy for the next owner.PS ....OZCHEVY... leave it BLACK mate they look stunning!!!
