in factory authentic class, should the fuel cap on a HT GTS be the same colour as the body? or would a stainless filler cap & spill tray also be considered a factory original item? or would points be deducted for the latter?

thanks

Good question. One should also ask whether you will loose points for having replacement repo parts? The way I read the rules for the upcoming nationals is that not too any cars could fit into the Factory classes.

As i have RSP boot mats, RSP 350 aircleaner decal and a repo spare wheel retaining bolt in my HG GTS 350 i am now in Mild Custom

Thats going to a lot of trouble to send the repo man to repossess a retaining bolt. Or did you send the sheriff?

For the original question, I shall answer with a question, Did Holden offer an option of stailess steel filler cap and spill tray for your car when new?

If the answer is yes then you would be in Factory Authentic, if no then in mild custom.

As for replacement parts, you can replace parts with RSP bit and pieces as long as they fullful the visual and functional purpose.

It should also be noted that condition is not normally a part of the judging process for Authentic at the Monaro nationals, so a poor quality genuine itme is worth more than a good condition but poor reproduction.

This is why some of those involved in reproduction of some Monaro parts have gone the futher distance, as poor reproduction would attract the exact same demerit points as aftermarket on things like Battery, plugs, leads, clamps, radiator caps etc, just to name a few.

Also cars this age thing that would not normally be replaced have to be, such as stickers etc, RSP again can be used as long as they are the right type, if not then points will be lost. A good example of continual improvement is the 327 air cleaner decal, for years it was the wrong type, now it is the right type and the current version does not attract demerit points.

If you are having difficulty with the self classification, contact either your local Monaro club or the Queesnland club. Also remember to send in the photos that have been requested, this helps ensure that all cars are in the right catagory.

Hi Warren, thanks for your reply

I guess this is my original question.
Was the stainless filler cap & splash tray, a standard original item
for the HT 80837? or was it a holden offered option on the above mentioned models?
I have seen so called factory original HT cars with both
body colour matched filler caps, and with stainless filler cap with matching splash tray!
What is correct?

thanks

Thanks Warren, I was going to ask the question of which class to enter when i get there next year. FYI the club suggest that i could be in Factory Authenic / Factory Improved but the wording suggested Mild custom

No mater what class i get put in, Im just looking forward to the drive up the east coast and back in the HG

The chrome Cap was HD HR only #7420489 , even though its exactly the same as HKTG. I actually bought all of holdens last ones of that number and people just etch pimed them and painted them their body colours . The chrome caps look best if you ask me . The stainless caps are aftermarket CPC replacements , the spill trays are aftermarket and not genuine holden either.
So i would assume they would be no good for judging , even though i dont know anything about their rules as i am not into shows . The Fuel caps on HKTG were painted body colour , and if bought new from Holden back then they were always Gold zinc plated or etch primed that i have had and then you painted your own colour on . Hope that helps
Cheers James

Yes as James has pointed out, body finish only in HT and no spill tray.

I was wondering abut the chrome ones, I though they might have been tonner, but thanks for clearing that up James.

The judging is simple in Authentic class, every part that is missing or incorrect is noted and the car with the least missing or incorrect bits is the closes to original, easy.

You can be elliminated from the class if you have made modifications, such as the spill tray, extractors, carby, manifold, radio steering wheel etc.

In authentic it would be ok, but in concours it would attract the attention of the judges, would have to speak to Ben about elligability in concours.

PS

If fastlane members are having some difficulty in classifying their cars for the next Monaro nations, please email me all the details of the car and some pictures and I shall help guide you.
