The splines on VP axles and 28 spline 9 inchers are the same but things like bearing to axle flange distances could be completely different which could leave your rotors out of alignment with your calipers. I learned of these subtle differences the hard way when I tried to fit Ford BW axles to a Valiant BW diff to get the Ford stud pattern. Firstly I found that the retaining flange had a different bolt pattern. No bother just file the holes a bit. This worked and I got one axle fitted and running but spewed diff oil everywhere as the Ford axle was turned down 1mm just where the wheel bearing seal (the bearings ran outboard of the seals in 1968) contacts the axle so no effective seal. The rear drum was hard against the axle flange too before it was completely over the brake shoes but only by a couple of mm. Have a read here you might find some of the info useful: http://www.fastlane.com....topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22861
