I have a Holden Astra 1988 1.8 EFI. The engine randomly cuts out whilst driving. It usually starts ok and whilst driving the revs drop to an idle and when you accelerate the engine cuts out. It starts again a couple of hours later.

Have replaced with new Fuel Pump, Filter and regulator. Has new plugs and leads. Even drained the fuel thinking it may be contaminated.

Replaced with secondand Fuel Relay and Dizzy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try another ECU - you should be able to pick up a second hand one for less than $20.

My sister has had a 1988 Camira since the late 90s. The thing runs perfect but if her mobile phone rings while shes idling, the engine occasionally stalls. Its been doing it the whole time shes had it, and shes had about 5 different phones since then. She doesnt drive it much anymore but we always suspected the ECU was the problem. The 2.0L Camira motor is just a bigger version of the 1.8L Astra motor, so I assume a similar ECU.

That or the crank angle sensor...
