My 186 has recently been re-conditioned and when it came back to me it had a problem of over heating when not moving at sufficient speeds. Lately the problem is worse.

The guy had replaced the old water pump during the reco saying it would have to be replaced anyway in the next year or so.

My main question is: When you look in the radiator filler point with the engine going should you see the water flowing past? mine doesnt...

(standard 6 cylinder small type holden hx radiator)

the only time you see the water flowing through the raditator. is when the motor and water is hot enough to open the thermostat for it to flow.ask if thay put a new thermostat in. if not get a new one put in your motor,

if the thermostat isn't opening water wont flow through the raditator. check that 1st as it is the easiest and cheapest part to replace.

btw, i took the thermostat out already and it doesnt help.

Doesnt have a thermostat in it.

It won't work properly without a thermostat the thermostat helps slow thw water down so it has time to absorb the heat. Imagine you put ypour hand over a candle. If you hold it there you burn, if you pass it over quick you don't. Same with the water. If i
