Hi All,does anyone know how to clean brake rotors?Im looking at new sets that are $140 etc, thinking I would rather spend that money somewhere else(like brake pads)so I could get a set from the wreckers cheaper but want to know what anyone knows will clean them up good and how wide should they be? Do wreckers machine discs before they sell them? If they are not skimmed you wont be able to tell if they are running true even if they are thick enough. For $140 why would you stuff around with history unknown rotors? Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh Jim, but safety is always expensive until you have an accident. Hi Jim.
I assume from your avatar that you are talking about HQ front disc rotors. $140 pr seems a bit expensive, do a bit of shopping around. A Sydney price would be closer to $110 pr.
These rotors (new) are 25.4 mm thick & should be scrapped at anything thinner than 24.5 mm.
The only way to clean old brake disc rotors is to machine them, but make sure they are still thick enough to do so.
Dr Terry.

Ooh, Jim. I dont know that I would bother with tracking down second hand, brake components to save a buck. New rotors are not gunna need a machine & also give you a good new bearing shell. More life to a new thick disc rotor than a secondhand one with only one machining left on it. I assume HQ? Nup, new all the way for me. Utility8 |

Yeah HQ type rotors , I only thought about 2nd handys cause a car came in and the brake rotors looked real good but are a week or two in the weather, but more interested in the width. The new rotors that are being made, are they any good?

How would you know if the second hand rotors are any different brand to any others available new now? If it is old or rare - Cut it! http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |
