Hi all,
Im doing up a few old V8 aircleaners, some to keep, some for friends/work colleagues and all in the HQ-Early Commodore range.

However I have two types of original lids, one has a deeper indent where wingnut screws as it has slightly higher angled centre, the other is nearly flat right across. I can add a pic if that's confusing, just wanted to know what suited what, one if for early models or 253 only or....
thanks

Thanks for quick reply Jim.
Hope these are clear enough, hard to photograph with flash and still show angles. Lid on left is more domed and has deeper centre circle, the lid on the right is less domed and centre circle is almost flat.
thanks,
Ben

Forgot to mention, both of these samples in the pic showed no signs of decals, most I have do. Was the HX the only model that didnt have transfers through the 70s, or perhaps applied by dealers only?

Is there a good website that shows original Holden engine pics or top point restorations? Most I search for shows chrome aftermarket aircleaners or HQs with 5.0 decals etc!
cheers

There are a couple of factory pictures here
This is from a SS road test article but the under bonnet picture is HTG by the looks of it.

Thanks, Ill have a read through some of those articles later. If that lid on the SS matches mine with the large recessed centre then when did they approx change to the flatter profile, or others mentioned?
cheers

Ok just as a follow up I have now realised there are 3 different lids in my collection from HG-VC era.

My pre-pollution HG/HT lid and another off an early pollution HQ/HJ are the same and are the tallest dome of the lot and not in the above photos. Possibly some overlap at different factories but it seems early HJ on used the rather flat profile lid as shown on the right and continued through to the HZ, I have one fitted with original HZ decal. Then about the time of HZ/VB they changed back to the domed type with depressed centre (shown on left) but not as tall as the early model lid. I had a few with red motor transfers so HZ/VB and a number with blue WB/VC decals. And obviously this version is generally in better condition paintwise, in my collection, being years newer in some cases.

The HQ SS article also shows the taller domed lid but hard to compare without others next to it.

This is all based on photos found and lids that appear to be original to bases and show decals/remains. Feel free to comment or disagree, I just want to match up which lids go on what model!
cheers
