HQGTS350, ive passed the info you have onto Ben and ill see what he says about it. Have a look at the stuff DA is talking about too in the boot, and have a look where the speedo cable enters the firewall and describe where it is. Also does it look like its had factory air on it? Check the transmission tunnel just next to the shifter hole also as DA says and see if it has an ugly looking, out of place hump (to clear the manual shifter). A manual 350 HQ has all sorts of odd stuff associated with the clutch mechanism too but someone that owns one like DA will be able to tell you what to look for with that stuff.

Okay, Have taken photos of the things you asked and link is below. I have checked the things you asked and found the following: - Speedo cable comes from gearbox straight up beside the fuel line and enters a grommet under brake booster and the steering column and continues straight up into dash, see photo from from under dash. - Hole in boot in the middle. There are 3 holes 1st one has fuel sender wire, then two more beside it. See photo. - factory air - not that I can tell - trans tunnel - has a hump but look at photo, it looks like a factory piece welded there to me?? Hurst shifter too. - cluch mechanism is hydraulic, see photos. Being 6/72, Should it be restored to the early look as it has mph speedo, buttons on back of seats and flatter seats, exactly when did they change to the dual speedo, zippers inseats, etc?? If the body is original GTS350 then it looks like it was a manual due to the speedo cable location and the shifter hump. The hydraulic clutch is an aftermarket thing, the original was a big linkage and crossover system. As I said im not fully up to speed on what brakets for this would be left behind, but someone that owns one like DA would be able to tell you exactly where to look for evidence.

Yes DA it is a 8/71 Melbourne built car with a 6/72 Sydney compliance plate MMMMMMMM, me smells a big fish.
If I was a betting man I would say you are right about it being a Melbourne body, and I would also bet on it no longer has its original engine number.

Hi HQ350GTS, Congratulations! You own a Melbourne built 350 4-speed car. Nice! The boot hole on a Sydney car is actually a hole you can stick your arm through if you try hard enough. Those little holes beside the wiring grommet need to be filled in.
Hopefully there will be a few of these cars at the Monaro Nationals this year. I can almost bet there will be some reputations smashed at this event. Should be a great time for all interested in these true muscle cars.
