This question has crossed my mind many times re Monaros.

There are always many discussions re tags on this forum and i wanted to know how judging would be done on, for example, a real tagged 81837 vs a an 80837 that has been done up as a 81837 in the class factory authentic or similar.

If you mean that it has 80837 tags but is being referred to as a "Bathurst 327" for example, then the tags are a dead give away.

If it was a Nationals. It would not be allowed in the Original class. After all, it is not original, it has been modified from how it left the factory. It would go in the factory improved class.

As for other shows, it would depend on the organisers. Some would allow it into Original, some would not.

The fact that a car has 81837 tags attached to it is what is used for scruntineering. The diferences between a 80737 body and an 81837 body are minimal, and if the components that make them different are transfered then should be ok. For example the radios as discussed at the moment, if I take an HT/G radio and change the lenses to green it is now an HK radio, rebodied if you wish.

Now if during the judging process it is found that the body used to rebody was not up to scratch, then it might be penalised, however unless in concours I dobt that will happen. Checks are now in place to check the firewall to VIN and body plates to ensure that these allign. On coupes they would be placed into modified, for sedans they would be placed in non Monaro.

Also if the car has "remanufactured" tags the car cannot enter authentic or concours. I think the minimum class for such a car is also modified dfor couope and non Monaro for sedan.

But to answer the original question, an 80737 made up as an 81837 would be in either:

Factory improved: If nothing but genuine parts for that model are used.
Modified: If mags, extractors etc are used (Cannot enter street modified, as engine has been changed)

Thanks for the feed back.

Here in the west i do know of a 80837 dressed up as an 81837 (has not removed tags) and it is on club rego. The DPI here just looks at the age and origionality of the vehicle.

For me it is more of a personal thing that a good looking faker gets the gong over a nice original
