Yes, thats right. The connector under the dash (near the ECU) is the same pin-outs from VR to VS, so its no problem.
From memory, one of the 2 plugs on the drivers side (near the battery on a VR, behind the RH strut on a VS) has a different pin-out, but the same wires in the plug.
You will need to have your memcal modified to remove VATS as it will be looking for a signal from the VS BCM that you cant give it.
If you got your engine from a donor car, and still have that donor car, then Id consider changing the entire body loom over (which is part of the main loom behind the dash, and the interior fuse box) to get the increased functions from the VS BCM such as 2 stage unlocking, and the 2 speed thermo-fan control (VR can only do on/off - VS fan has low & high, selected by the BCM). Its a huge job to change it over, but worth it if you already have the bits. If you dont have the donor car, dont worry about it.
One catch if you change looms & BCMs - you must have at least 1 functioning key head with that BCM, and put your keys blade into it.
