AUIII XR6, automatic, petrol; Had filled that tank up less than 80 kms before the issue first occurred. Was driving in the middle of the day recently; maximum daily temperature would have been 45C. Had travelled on a country trip for approximately 400 kms, 110km/h, everything had been okay, then the car lost power and the engine would not rev, then the car stalled. Had to pull off the road and restart the engine. Happened four times over approximatelty 50 kms. Drove another 100 kms to my destination and the problem did not happen again. When the engine stalled, there were no lights on the dash, like when you turn the key before the starter motor engages. Undertook the return journey a few days later, cooler temperatures and the problem was not present. I am assuming this was caused by petrol vaporisation. Any ideas?

I would lean more towards a vapour lock in the tank personally.

A vapour lock in the tank, owing to the heat of the day? Is a vapour lock a pocket of air in the tank? Interesting that you suggested the tank, as when I filled up, less than 80kms earlier it took a long time to get

Doing some reading at wikipedia and other sites about vapour lock and see that it itanks or the fuel lines. Although modern cars are less prone to the problem, than older ones. Can not find an answer to, if the problem remedies itself.

I havent owned a au , but i would assume there is a breather for the tank hiding somewhere. Check it out, make sure its not blocked, Dont tighten your fuel cap all the way and try that.(havent bought a nw fuel cap lately have you) Just to be on the safe s
