Hi Team

Can anyone explain what RTS was and whether the principles can be applied to earlier model cars - in particular HK-G.

Maybe if I got Dr Terrys book I wouldn't need to ask....

Cheers

Jeremy

Slightly different geometry in the front end and a with a heavier front stabiliser bar and a rear stabiliser bar. It can only be applied back as far as HQ with an RTS subframe to be installed and rear stabiliser added. Hk-HG are totally different.

Cheers,
Pete.

RTS has several aspects to it.

1. Improved springs & shocks.
2. Thicker front sway bar & addition of a rear sway bar.
3. Revision of front wheel alignment specs (neg camber & positive caster).
4. Stiffer neoprene suspension bushes (some, not all).
5. Mods to power steer valve feel (if p/st fitted).
6. Radial tyres factory fitted (DOH!!)

None of these ideas are radically new, but it was probably the first time an Australian manufacturer had a proper rethink in their whole suspension design from the old days of king-pins & cross-ply tyres.

Apart from No. 5 on the above list any or all of those on the list are common modifications that if done properly can only improve your car. You can cheat with No. 3, see a good old fashioned wheel alignment man.

Radial tyres were superior to the old rag type.
And so a German called peter hannenberger went to work on the safety aspect of making a Holden capable of being able to be controllable but the problem was most Aussies were incompetent drivers. (for a talented driver it is fantastic).

So series 2 RTS came out in the VC commodore. for the dills.

The target was to get the tyres behaving in the optimum state and keeping the performance parameters constant under all conditions.
Its a engineering philosophy.
