Chic Henry has been announced as the 3rd inductee into the Rare Spares Legend Hall of Fame and the 2010 winner of the esteemed Golden Helmet.

In 2007 Rare Spares moved forward with an initiative to help turn around an obvious lack of recognition for individuals within the automotive industry.

We saw it as our duty to the automotive community; to create an award that recognised the lifetime achievements of those individuals that have given great levels of dedication to the motor industry explained Rare Spares General Manager, David Rayner.

Three years on and the Rare Spares Legend Hall of Fame has developed into an industry favourite for both recipients and those involved in the motoring enthusiast market.

However, for event promoter Chic Henry the road to the Golden Helmets has been a far longer haul; a 23 year ride that changed the course of street machining in Australia. Henry has been instrumental in driving the popularity and growth of the street machine industry in Australia.

When Rare Spares first came up with the long overdue idea of recognising individuals as legends in the automotive industry, a small number of names quickly came to hand. Whilst our first two Legends are well recognised as superb car builders; Chic Henry, our third recipient has the distinction of being Australias most passionate and dedicated promoter of street machining. Without Chics flair and total commitment to the industry, Australian street machining would not be where it is today affirmed Mr Rayner.

Chic Henry was fittingly presented the Rare Spares Legend Award during the renowned Summernats Car Festival, an event in which he has personally built into one of the worlds great automotive events and arguably the Southern Hemispheres largest car show of its type a unique combination of raw horsepower, breathtaking automotive artistry, astonishing craftsmanship and outright enjoyment.

As has become tradition, the new inductee is paraded via a lap of honour around the Summernats main arena; this years lap was met with a tear-jerking standing ovation from more than 25,000 people paying homage to a visionary and true legend of the motor industry.

I was genuinely shocked when my name was called out; as they (the Golden Helmet Awards staff) had led me to believe somebody else was to win the award - it took me a few moments to process that theyd called out my name. Chic Henry joins the illustrious ranks of; hot rod icon, Rod Hadfield and serial car builder, Howard Astill in the Rare Spares Legend Hall of Fame.

Henry added, Its an honour to be presented with this prestigious award; the golden helmet genuinely means such an enormous amount to me, for so many reasons. The recognition from my peers, colleagues and the industry for such an illustrious award is a very cool thing.

Ive never done this for my own gratification, its a passion and at the end of the day Im an enthusiast before Im a promoter, I am just lucky enough to live my passion year after year. My personal enjoyment comes from seeing the faces of the car builders as they are rewarded for their hours of hard work.

I feel very privileged to be recognised for my achievements and join the inaugural members, Rod Hadfield and Howard Astill in the Rare Spares Legend Hall of fame - Ive still got a fair way to go though, a lot of cool people to meet and some cool cars to see. concluded Mr Henry.

An exclusive golden helmet with the Legends year of induction and their name sign written onto it was presented during the night. The helmet is designed and painted by well known artist John Kral in a scheme individual to the Legend award.

Legends also receive mainstream recognition through a dedicated website www.rarespareslegend.com.au and full page advertisement in leading publication Street Machine Magazine, along with a professional photo shoot.
