Absinth.
You made a decision as an intelligent individual to buy a second hand book at what you thought was a fair and reasonable price at the time. For a start you did not buy it from Warren and Ben. The person who profited from it is the person you bought it from so Warren and Ben did not directly profit from its sale to you. You speculatively purchased the book hoping it might go up in value and you might then profit from it or leave it someone who may. Take this to a courtroom and it would surely be dismissed as vexatious and frivolous.
You say that precedents have been set regarding this matter. Can you please name one as an example?
It is unreasonable and unfair for you to think that you could get something from them for what you speculatively did.
Jeez....I paid phone numbers for my Monaro (Ben and Warren both know the car well) at the top of the market. Im not looking for scapegoats and youre hinting on suing someone for five hundred dollars if they choose to re release a title they own.
Warren and Ben own the title and they can do what they like with it. I can assure you you would have no recourse if they chose to republish. They can do it 100 times if they like.
Aside from that it is common sense to believe first run books will always be valuable and larger run additional prints wont be.
Re prints are defined as such in opening pages.
I have a large collection of books/magazines/tech books etc. For example I have a re printed copy if issue #1 of "Wheels" magazine and also a re-printed copy of "Racing car news" #1. Both would be lucky to make more than ten bucks on Ebay. Yet the originals are quite valuable.
I also have an original HT350 Monaro sales brochure which is quite valuable and there are thousands of copies out there and they have not hurt the originals value one cent.
If you think that a re print of Warren and Bens book would negatively impact on the value of yours then I think your knowledge of collectable books is limited.
If you are considering suing Warren and Ben if you lost out from a re print.....will you give them money if your original improves in value as a result of the same thing?
Your book should still do well regarding its value if a re print is run.
Cheers
