My experience has been, any "black" on the production line is GM-H chassis black, but components assembled else where are real black, ie all the same colour.

By this HK front subframe is painted on the car in the factory so chassis black, but front crossmember is painted elsewhere and is black.

Obviously the plant making the cross members only had black paint and therefore no variation.

So on my theory the front subframe and inner guards on HQ should be black not chassis black. Firewall, unless one of those short period of time Sydney cars with colour firewall, chould be chassis black, along with undercarage and rear compartment.

Hi, You need to use a paint with a medium gloss level. The Monaro book lists the correct paint lines for the various levels of gloss but sadly they of no use today as the tinters are so different. The correct colour for the black in a HQ GTS engine bay is Warrigal black as the cars were premium level. It is not chassis black or box black or any other black. Im sure I have answered this on here just recently but cant seem to find it. I used a Spies Hecker paint with brilliant results on mine. 71 HQs are the pick.
