Does anyone here have an original colour GMH brochure or Wheels etc (or spotlight on Monaro) photo of an early HJ 308 engine bay (one without a canister)? Just looking for how it all fits. I dug up the right aircleaner with 5.0Litre in red, snorkel pointing to the passengers guard, choke fitting and driver's side front rocker cover breather. I can get the right carb but not sure about exactly it all should look, like aircon and heater hose routing etc.

Also looking for some NOS or really good original GMH mudflaps for a HJ-HZ sedan or wagon. I have a NOS RHF but the RHR I have is HQ or HJ-HZ ute/van/statesman/coupe. So I need both LH side and RHR.

I had a customer turn up at the shop yesterday in his 1 owner all original HJ 308 ute. Let me know your email address, or email me at [email protected] and Ill send you the pics I took under the bonnet.....although Im pretty sure it had a canister. The guy ordered the ute with a column auto, GTS dash and rims and factory air shocks. Hes done about 400,000 miles in it and, apart from a mark on the bonnet, it looks in pretty good shape.

Appart from a few minor differences this photo on the front of a worshop manual would do. Only 10/74 seem to be without the carbon canister, so photos are going to rare.

Yes, very early HQ will be the same as late HQ (Sept 73 on, ADR27). Essentially, apart from the change to an accelerator cable it should appear identical to late HQ.

When you phoned me & we spoke about air cleaner types, I clearly forgot about the PCV return. This would make late HQ & all HJ/LH unique & different only in this area to the HX/HZ type air cleaners.

The PCV valve on yours should go into the rear of the passenger side rocker cover with a mould hose going around to the front of the carby (all HT/HG & HQ 308 should be the same in this area). The PCV return goes into the front driver side of the air cleaner & rocker cover.

Dr Terry.

Thanks guys.

Terry, photos of LH SLR5000 engine in the original 5/75 brochure show the PCV valve at the front drivers side and the return to the passengers side rear. Although what you say is correct for this Premier by looking at the photos in the Modern Motor referenced below.

Warren, that book has a good picture and will help, unfortunately it looks like a 253! There are some photos in the 2/75 Modern Motor in the article titled "Pricy Premier" which ill also have to chase up, but again its a 253. This is an 11/74 car with no canister, but its a pretty special build so may have been started much earlier (wasnt completed until late January 1975 either).
