Best way to tell if its a panelvan is that it looks like a tall stationwagon but missing 2 doors. :P
But seriously... I dont think there were any "special" ones (like GTS or Sandman) so Id just google how to decipher HG codes to find out trim and engine options.

Here you go, try here. http://holdenpaedia.oldh...com/HK/HT/HG_Model_CodesLooks like all panelvans were Belmonts so there shouldnt be too much to decipher.

Check around the whole inner and outer upper roof perimeter to see if its rusted out is your first port of call . They rust from inside out due to condensation running from the centre of the roof into the inner cant rail area . On the outside the water sits in the front drip rail and eventually the paint gets eaten away . There should be fine spot welds around this area , if they are gone good chance its been bogged up or repaired . The front floors always rust , as do the spare wheel doors , upper and lower tailgates , subframes and all ther other usual places the sedans rust also . Try and buy a dry rust free one from a country area if you can . As you will chasing your tail forever if you buy a bad one, as there is so many boxed in areas that are nasty to fix on a van . And remember if you have bad quarter panels the windowless upper parts were welded on after, then the roof after that , so there is bucklies of doing a nice job fitting a main quarter panel without major major surgery . THE FIREWALL WILL TELL YOU IF ITS HK HT HG FOLLOWED BY THE BODY NUMBER AND PLANT .Its seems as though all the Panel Vans were built in Adelaide that i have seen , but this may not be true at all as i have not looked that hard into it . Hope this Helps www.monaromuscleparts.comEdited by user Sunday, 21 February 2010 7:36:09 AM(UTC)

Agree with James^^^, except for the "all HK-HG vans built in Adelaide" bit. The shells were mainly constructed in Adelaide, but plenty were assembled in other plants, much like many HQ-HZ vans were assembled in Pagewood, Mosman Park and Dandenong from Elizabeth bodies. The difference is HK-HG have an Elizabeth chassis number on the firewall placed there during body construction (hence they also got an Elizabeth ADR plate from 1/1/70), whereas HQ-HZ only got the Elizabeth BODY plate and got a chassis number from the assembly plant since the chassis number was on the chassis, not the body. In a post 1/1/70 HT or HG the only things that will ID it as say a Pagewood build will be the Pagewood VIN plate (and on some of the earlier cars an S on the end of the chassis number eg HT12345AS, or the other way around (I always get it mixed up!)).

Ah that makes sense , thats why i said that may not be true about them all being from Adelaide . But obviously they were set up to build the bodies there which i knew would be pointless at multiple plants for the number built. www.monaromuscleparts.comEdited by user Monday, 22 February 2010 7:00:21 AM(UTC)
