Gday everyone.
Was talking to a mate who was talking to bloke who owned an SLR 5000. The SLR 5000 owner told my mate that he also owned a SLR with a factory fitted 6 cylinder motor in it. Making it an SLR 3300.
Is this true or possible?
Iam unable to get a look at identification numbers.

I have also seen a Torana with a "6pack" sticker and stripes as well. Yellow with blue stripes and Red with Black stripes could it be he was refering to this. Maybe?

I know that the VN/VPs came out with a SV 3800 (not 100% sure of the prefix was "S","SV" or "SS") I have seen Maroon and Blue in colour and everything colour coded examples of these vehicles.

Just wanted to know for information sake.

Nicho

Standard engine for an LH or LX SL/R was 3300 (202). 253 and 308 were optional, and with the 308 it became an SLR5000. I have personally also seen one with a 173 although it wasnt an officially available option.

Missed the 6pack thing too, this was another package but I it was Gpack. 6pack makes more sense though! It was an option on an S (VB69).

There was an SL/R 3300 for sale at Hawkesbury swap about 8-10 years back.
It was that turquiose colour, and was a one or 2 owner car with all books.

The seller was a well known person amongst the vintage Chev guys, and the American importers.

Cheers,

Mick

There are several vehicles that fit that description.

In the VN series HSV had the SV3800 in 1988 & the SV6 in early 1989. They were a bit like a V6 version of a Clubsport. These were built before the 5.0 V8 VN was released.

In the VP series there was the Holden SS V6, which as its name suggests was an SS but with a V6 engine fitted. These were a limited build special for Group N (production) racing & had a 3.27 rear axle & a re-mapped mem-cal etc.

Yes a lot of people bag Holden on making the 6 cylinder performance cars, like the HK - G GTS, SLR 3300 etc, but just look how popular they are.

How many VN - VX S packs do you see, and now SV6s, they are a lot more profitable than the full on muscle cars.

Greetings Nicho
A work collegue of mine recently purchased an original LH SLR 3300 in Orchid metallic, and an M20.
He did not like the colour and was going to paint it white, although i have talked him out of this, he still wants to install a 308 and wide hotwires. The wheels will require the instalation of flared guards. My view is the originality of a reasonably unusual car would be lost. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
regards
Mick

Id be in favour of not flaring the guards and keeping it orchid, but go for broke with a 308 as its easily changed back. Just keep the original 6cyl and M20 with 6cyl accessories like clutch setup all together and covered with plastic.

G day everyone.
Thanks to everyone that replied to my post and cleared up what I thought was an urban myth.

HK1837 - Gpack does sound a bit dodgy and 6pack would have/does sound better, but probably some wowser at the time would have piped up and said it was a promotion for beer calling it a 6pack. Bloody wowsers!(I need a beer now, bloody work!)

Mick50 - Tell your work collegue to go and buy a standard body and chuck the 308 into it. Its been done before. How about doing something original/different?
Orchid metallic(I beleive this is metallic Pink correct me if Iam wrong) is not the grooviest colour but is the factory colour on a car that is some what of a rareity, I would deal with it and be proud that I own a pink SLR! Tell him to let his misses to drive it.
Yer he could fit the 308 and store all of the 6 cyl bits but its not the same.(Its like going to Macdonalds for a salad) I would either fit a set of twin or triple carbies or mechanical injection(something different)and do some internal upgrades to the motor, preferbably not to the original number matching motor. Thats if he wants a bit more poke or is he after the SLR fame. Remember the GTRs kept the GTs honest in there day.

6 pack is a Chrysler term and is the number of barrels feeding the engine. 3 x 2 barrel carbys. Used on both 6 cylinder and V8.

IIRC 6 pack was not a term which was applied to beer in the day, all packaged beer just sat in the carton. Either 12 750 mil bottles or 12 750 mil steel cans or 24 375 mil steel cans (BYO can/bottle opener), dont remember stubbies being around then, but I could be wrong.

ahh remember the old KB Keg? sort of like a modern day stubbie but with a larger hole in the top.
