i went for a drive the other day to the public mass rally to try and get vic another race track, amd i must say it as good to see many of the old guys still passionate about drag racing, i chatted and mingled with most the guys that i have watched race from the time i was a kid until now.
what did also strike me was that most of the old racers have just gotten older and have not changed their ways of thinking or attitudes to trying to persuade governments or major sponsors into the sport, and i will add, that the up and coming young guys are not much better.
as i walked around, i saw stunningly turned out race cars, but owners in dirty, ripped and stained clothes, with their bumms hanging outta their shorts and burping as they put down a cold coke while trying to beat the heat..not pleasureable to say the least..especially when a person that may hold the key to whether we get a new track or not may be walking right past you..
in order to get any current or future government or private enterprise to tip in millions of dollars to help fund a track, i reckon we need to lift our image heaps and heaps, if we are going to get anywhere at all
it was a good day there, tuff cars, new trucks for transporters, great venue for it, some did even say just an excuse for a show and shine, but still the same old attitudes that we had in the 70-80s and i dont reckon youd see that at any V8 supercar outing, thats for sure, hence they get the backing, always have, always will

if you improve your images and get a new track you will have to change the rules to suit

rule change 1: all ties must be removed before racing

hahaha, and a fresh pair of socks and jocks as well..

in all due respect to people, not everyone can afford gucci jeans or burburry jackets, but davey, come on, have you seen some of the heads on those boys??? it aint real hard to have a wash and put on some tshirts and shorts that aint threadbare. i have to question it when there is a $250k doorslammer sitting there, and the driver/owner is in dirty broken thongs??
i never have seemed to recall mark skaife or craig lowndes look like that, but then again who you going to back if you are multinational company, lowndes or bray(although he is much better now..)???
as much as i love drag racing, its hard to market it in australia, its a no brainer i reckon
