Hi Everyone,

This is my first post as I have just purchased a HZ Premier with a 253 and Trimatic. It is is pretty good condition but needs a little tidy up. I bought the car off my boss for $1500, he paid $7500 2 years ago for it and he just wanted out so I got a bargain.

I have managed to get hold of a 308 with Vn heads and a good manifold, the motor is in pieces and I need someone to put it together for me, any suggestions in Sydney to do this ? I dont want a million hp but would like it built correctly.

The car also needs some better suspension ? Again what do I need and who can do it.

I understand the theory on cars but have no idea on the tools so I need someone to do the work for me, it has a leak in the passager side somewhere and little things like that I need help with :(

I love this car and would really love to have it as a weekend crusier :)

Check the 308 is a trimatic pattern block first!

Try PMing Dr Terry on this site. He may be able to help you with suspension in Sydney, or if not tell you who to go to.

Are you going carby or injected, auto or manual with the 304? What year is the block? These things will change what you need to do and who is best to help.

Suspension wise get the basic stuff checked first like springs and shocks. Then if thats not the problem go further with bushes, ball joints, steering components and tie rod ends. Places like Pedders can help but be prepared to open your wallet, they will recommend you replace everything as soon as possible, the more you can do yourself the cheaper it will be. Springs and shocks on the HZ are simple to change with a jack and a couple of spanners.

If your serious about modding the car service manuals can help you do the common stuff and leave more cash available for the harder to do things and parts.

Gday Trek52
Congrats to your first post and welcome aboard SS Fastlane.

Always shop around for prices and always ask questions.
Have a defined plan as to what you are going to use the car for and what YOU want to do to the car. That includes everything from the colour of the fluffy dice to the type of oil to be used.
AND ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS!
Go to car shows and see whats been done and whats getting done and at the same time familiarise yourself with the different compomentry of the car.

Mechanics/tradespeople......some are butchers, some are good, one or two you name your first born after them.

Wreckers come in handy for the fiddly bits and a good place to get your hands dirty and gain some basic knowledge.

I would suggest keeping the 253 in running order so you can move it around the yard to mow, to get onto a car trailer(youll have no mates to help push it onto a trailer but youll have plenty to go cruising with).

Find a mechanic you are happy with and get the 308 rebuilt to what specs you want. He should be able to help you with the suspension side of things as well.

Happy motoring trek52

thanks guys,

the block I have is a 308 Black that is trimatic so all good there, the heads are new etc but the bottom end is standard so I am looking at doing it up a bit.

I will try to find the details for Dr Terry, I have a 11 sec VX Calais so I know the pitfalls of bad mechanics. The problem is that the guys that have done the work on my car dont know much about the old school stuff.

I am going carby, I cbf going injected.

I want to learn a bit as I go and yeah for sure the 253 will stay untill the 308 is built and I want to do a drive in drive out.
