Have a good look at the conrods to, they should have real big forged casting lines on them to.

What i have seen of the screw head on the clock is that the arrow points to, is the next hour clock wise so your 11 should be or could be 12 o'clock or maybe 6 o'clock have a good look at possibility of the arrow looking like a dogie blob (bad casting of it.) But the K159 should have a flat head screw casting before the K159 or a raised bump their. the raised bump is for AM and the screw is for PM. When looking at the K159 the clock is positioned just as you would read it.

Did a deal on an early HT Brougham today. Driveline is complete with air cleaner, Powerglide etc and power steering. Real original old thing that looks unmolested but neglected.
Body No.: 211A
Engine number: 308H41XX
Date coded F129 (12th June 69)
It has 'HP' in raised letters on the side of the block. Car will be wrecked as the rest is too far gone but I'll bee keeping the running gear. |

Shame it wasn't a later one and then a HT Monaro owner would have snapped up the running gear. Awesome transplant for an old low mile 6cyl HT Kingswood or ute or something like that though. |

Byron I scored another interesting early one today.
Engine number: 253H42XX
Date code: E19 1st May 1969
It has no numbers on the side of the block at all. Its blank. It also has an early smooth casing three speed manual attached to it. Is it possible this came out of a White Hot Special? What was the date and release range for these?
I have photos of it and will be emailing them shortly. Havent been back to my mates for the photos of the earlier one yet.

Could be. A White hot was just a manual 253 Kingswood given a fancy name to bringfocus on GMH's new V8, so no way to tell. Any photos or numbers off these things are welcome. Normally I just pass the info onto Ben so it is all kept in one place. |

Interesting to note the engine number sequence for the 253 (42XX 1st May 69)is higher than the 308 (41XX 12th June 69) one i posted earlier. |

I'm not surprised at all. The engines were probably mixed up something horrid in the early stuff. |

Found another early 253 engine today without '253' cast on the side of the block. That's the third one in as many months. This one came out of a Monaro. There seems to be a pattern now and I reckon the early 253's had nothing and the 308's had HP, then they both changed around the same time having '253' and '308' cast on the side.
The numbers on todays find are as follows:
253H36xx D229 (22nd April 1969) Blank block.
The two previous were:
253H12xx K188 (18th October 1968) Blank block.
253H42xx E19 (1st May 1969) Blank block. |

So what you do with this engines HKTG
Have you looked at the Crankshafts and con rods to see if they are different before 18-5-69

I just checked in the shed and my 253 has
253H6XXX
cast H59 and dial at 1 o'clock with screw head
253 cast on the side of the block and Holden cast at front.

Hi,
I was hoping someone could tell me more about my Holden block.
It's engine number is QR43***, which according to my research makes it a 253 block. However on the side of the block it has 308 stamped into it?
Is this a 308 or 253?

Stolen.
Tried to disguise it as a 253 for fitment to early Holden.
Engine plant mistake (unlikely but possible).
A few other reasons too. |
