Cant suggest an engineer, and you dont need one, just a modification officer who can certify LA1 if you use an approved kit. You can buy kits from many different places to fit a V8. Qld modifications LA1 option 3 allow you to fit an engine with a max capacity of 305 ci. Hope this helps.

Suddenly makes 283 and 302 SBCs worth having again! Or a 200kW VN GroupA spec 304. Just thought of a good way to cheat a little too and avoid pollution ADRs using a Holden V8. Use a pre 1975 308 block and stick a 304 crank and pistons in it. Then you can run early heads if you like, and not have to have run canister and cats.

i have always wanted to have 302 chev i nearly bought one complete and origanal from a camaro from the states for $600 as i dont have to pay for shipping because we bring in machinery from the states at work, soulda dont it. the old torry had an un-engineered 253 when i bought it so its had all the steering and disk brakes done but i was under the impression the rules had changed so i was going for the supercharged 6 option. The HX tunna i just bought back comes with complete 308 and VN V8 T5 so a stock 308 and 5 speed in the torry will be fun and a nice chev for the tunna may be on the cards.

so the block needs to be pre-pollution to avoid pollution laws?

simple rule with old cars if it came out from the factory with that type of motor it can be put in no dramas . if not must have a engineer report (eg a 350 in a xy gt) a mate of mine has a big block ht monaro which no longer looks like one. it has massive wheels on the rear cheese cutters on the front wheel tubed 3/4 race chassis bla bla bla and all street legal. its all about the money

In NSW it does, I think QLD is the same.

302 Chev is easy to make. Just buy one of the small journal 327s that go through on Ebay with no bids. They are always on there. Rebuild it using a crank from a 283 or 265 and use 302 pistons. There are heaps of good quality pistins for 302s as they are a factory hi-po muscle engine from 67 -69 Z28. The really good ones were that later examples that used a large journal block and crank, but for a little Torana small journal would be fine. You can also do it using a later 283 block at bore it +0.125" which will give you 302 also. Even a 283 at +0.060 which is 292 cubes goes well.
