Ive had this car for a few years now, has had the odd acessory go bung on it, otherwise its a reliable car. Recently The temperature guage went from n/o in normal to hot. I was towing a car at the time. When i first purchased the car, after a short drive to the shops and back home, as i got out the car to open the garage door, you could hear the thermo fans kick in, it sounded like a jet plane taking off, which i believe is normal. I have never had any overheating issues up 2 date. However i noticed when i pull up now, the fans are rotating but at about half speed. I am a electronic technician and dragged the multimeter out to do some voltage checks at the 4 pin plug/socket near the shroud. I noticed one of the fans had about 6 volts on it and the other about 7 volts. Also one of the 40 amp fan fuses in the engine bay was blown. I replaced it and checked/swapped the fan relays with two of the others. No difference. Is there a third fan tucked away somewhere within the front grille section, as i noticed a third fan relay. Or is that the relay that operates the interior heating cooling fan? Does anyone have a schematic diagram for the fan operation system? After a short drive you can see bubbles in the reservior/filler bottle, and the temp guage doesnt go much over the O in normal.Need to know if the fans are 6 or 12 volt as i was reading some where they r connected in series, and are controlled via the ecu and a sensor? It seems as they r only running at half speed, therefore half airflow, hence engine is overheating. Today i dissconected the plug/socket and made up some terminals with wire and hooked them up directly to the battery with the engine running, and guess what,,, Fans spun up to the faster speed, sounded like the jet engine again and the temperature dropped just below the N in normal and the bubbles in the reservior dissapered. Well after all that marring on, it would be appreciated if someone could throw some light on this problem im having. I can only put it down to either the fans may be slightly faulty, the sensor that activates them is faulty, or a wiring issue, bad earth, corrosion on a connector or high resistance wire, etc. Dont want 2 spend a whole day pulling things apart if someone has had this exact same problem and could help me out. Need to go to Sydney at easter and will be towing a trailer, so im a bit pushed 4 time to fix this. Thanx Chris, awaiting someones reply please.
