Hey folks, i am after some info on fitting a Q Jet to my 253..
1. Are all Q Jets the same cfm ?
2. Are all holden 4 barrel manifolds the same ?
3. will a q Jet with its small primaries be fuel efficient when running at part throttle?
4. Will a Q Jet at Wide Open Throttle be overkill on a mild 253 ?
5. is a Q Jet good for running duel fuel ...?
6. I know a 308 is a better option , but for now the 253 will do ...lol... as i can convert it all later .
7 . Is it true that a 253 does not really need any major porting as it flows quite well as it is ? ( with extractors )
8 what is the best Q jet / manifold to get for my Red LX 253 emgine ?

No, varies from 720 to 800 cfm. 750 cfm most common

2. Are all holden 4 barrel manifolds the same ?
no, there are at least 5 i can think of.

3. will a q Jet with its small primaries be fuel efficient when running at part throttle?
yes, i got 26 Mpg with a quaddie on a 350 chev with 2.78 across the nullabor

4. Will a Q Jet at Wide Open Throttle be overkill on a mild 253 ?
no, the fuel is metered, and correct jets will be ok

5. is a Q Jet good for running duel fuel ...?
i have had no problems with the 5 or 6 that i have had.

6. I know a 308 is a better option , but for now the 253 will do ...lol... as i can convert it all later .
253 in torana should be fun for a short time, until you want more.

7 . Is it true that a 253 does not really need any major porting as it flows quite well as it is ? ( with extractors )
match porting for now on 253, leave the rest for when you get your 308.
8 what is the best Q jet / manifold to get for my Red LX 253 emgine ?
Blue 253 factory rochester

Ill just answer the manifold bit as Adam has done great on the rest.

What manifold to get depends on your engine. Is it an early LX or late LX? Does it have an EGR valve or blanking plate where the valve should go? Is the manifold water heated?

Basically the above questions will answer early or late. If its an early LX you can run a HT-HJ or early LX 308 manifold. If its late your only options are aftermarket - Edelbrock Performer or KC 25308 multifit. The factory pollution red motor 308 manifold is dog.
