any good FJ is worth something ,specials are the big dollar car as such .
in good running original cond maybe $6,000. restored maybe 10,000 plus, needing full resto $1000.-3,000 depending on cond.
A pristine special may go above $20,000

Rare compared to what? A Mitsubishi Colt is rare. I would think that the Business part of an FJ would play little part in the value. It would be worth between $1000 and $10,000 MAYBE!

For the 48, FJ, FE & FC series GM-H made the Business sedan variant which was marketed between the Standard & Special models. From the outside it looked just like a Standard but it had many minor additions to suit the taxi & fleet markets.

For 48 & FJ hey had:-
Larger heavy-duty battery and stronger tray.
Map pocket in right-hand cowl trim panel.
Heavy-duty leather-look headlining.
Interior pull-to handles on all doors.
Interior dome lamp courtesy switch on B-pillar.
Windlacing (door opening edge), trimmed in heavy-duty imitation leather.
Protection plates fitted over wheel-arches in rear door openings.
Interior trimmed in Truro Brown heavy-duty PVC material.
Seat cushions and padding reinforced and sponge rubber pads added to rear seat cushions.
Upgraded heavy-duty rubber floor and boot mats fitted.
Aluminium kick-plates on corners of front and rear seats.
Rear passenger handrail (taxi bar) above front seat squab.
Boot latch operable without leaving key in lock.
Heavy-duty rear springs (deleted for Taxi versions).
Exterior colour choice limited to Black or Cream.

Some of these items were deleted for the FE & FC series.

The model code for the Business sedan was 217 for the FJ, FE & FC series (the standard was 215 & the Special was 225). For the 48 series it was coded 48-215 (257).

I disagree a little with peter smol, in that Business sedans are now so rare that IMHO they would be worth more than a Standard or Special model, everything else being equal.

I respect your opinion Terry. I was only basing my personal opinion on the fact that I am only interested in metal shells of vehicles, and have a 9" angle grinder ready to cut anytime. It is one of the reasons EH clocks have zero value to me, as they are not required for anything I would enjoy fabricating or customising.

Just three weeks ago I cut up two rear fenders and two rear doors of an unmolested unrusted 48-215 to make the rear doors and fenders 20mm wider to allow for bigger rubber. All metal and metal finished and made to look factory. I loved it.

5 original tired but complete old utes, being something along the lines of 36 Ford, 39 Ford, 42 Ford, two Chevs of similar vintage. They were found in farm sheds in places like Deniliquin NSW and they are all getting new Chassis, new drivetrains, Chop top on one of them, changed wheel arches and fenders, hotted up etc.

The 48 Business sedan were part the last run, hence using FJ suspension. We own # 633 as one our current race cars, there is only a few of the 650 odd made still about.
10k wont come near it either...:)

I spent this evening for the last few hours cutting up an original EH Premier sedan no rust in floors or anywhere. I just cut off the front windscreen pillars, centre pillars out, will be starting on the unrusted original floor pans next. I have already cut the original unrusted roof off and sold it for 0.99c on eBay. Oh and it did have original power steering, but sold that as it was a crap accessory from my experience.

Sorry to ruin yer fun Frank & Pete but Vic Roads has brought a new anti hooning law in effective this morning stating that effective immediately it is illegal to alter car bodies away from the original stock design for road use. So tubs, chopping, etc etc etc are all out. As of today cars with these mods will not be able to be registered in Vic.

it doesnt really matter to me or my mates doing this stuff, as they cars are always registered and driving prior to chopping up so no one is the wiser, just do the job, bolt on the wheels, and lets go cruising
