Thought I might do a post on a problem that Ive had with my HK for some time, and the obscure cause. Might help someone else one day and save them a heap of time.
Problem was, the car wandered all over the place. Accelerate, even moderately, and it would veer to the left. Back off and it would straighten up. Going into a corner it would initially understeer and then, after a bit of correction, go into oversteer.
It semed like the back was steering the front, so did all the usual things with spring pads, centre bolts etc. but all looked OK. Pulled the motor & box, dropped the crossmember, replaced all pads, bushes etc. but didn't really think this would fix it. It didn't!
By chance I measured the circumference of both back tyres, something you wouldn't normally do. Yep, one tyre was bigger that the other with an extra 25 mm in the circumference. The tyres were of course the same brand (Repro Red Walls out of the 'States) and size but one was a a bit bigger than the other.
The poor old 10 Bolt Slippery must have been having great difficulty determining which wheel to drive, hence the back steering the front effect.
Swapped a front wheel with a back and the old girl drives as straight as a (40 year old) die again.

Bit of "stagger" Good for the speedway, not for the street.
