I have a Ht Prem and driving at night can be tricky as the sealed beams can be a bit to weak on even well lit rds . Is there a way to convert them to stronger Halogen ones or could they be cactus and how long can they last ? Did later models lik hx and Hz have halogen ?

you can put H4 halogens in no probs, but you have to run a relay so you can have 12V to them without drawing to much currant through your old wires and switch

i know a auto elec, he just gave me a relay and a peice of paper with some instructions on it
from memory relay was about $8 + a few meters of wire
it is quite simple (it must be if i can do it)
basicly theres 3 spots on the relay
1, trigger, your original power wire is used as the trigger 2, the 12V from the battery goes in 3, the 12V power goes out
the relay earths itself through the mounting tab (some have 4 spots, the fourth is the earth)
i will have a look for the instructions i have in the morning, til then thats the best i can do

A relay is not totally necessary.
If your switches & wiring are in good original condition, just simply convert to halogen inserts.
A standard halogen globe actually draws less current than a standard 7" incandescent sealed beam but emits substantially more light, especially if you use one of the new plus 30 or plus 50 type globes .

Check to see if you are getting a full 12 volts at the head lamps and a good earth
hz had halogen BUT the outer are only low beam.

Terry,
You forgot to mention that a HZ uses the same headlight switch as an HT and the HZ has H4s standard.
