Fellow Holden fans,

I'm trying to find ID off a HJ to HZ NON-Sandman Belmont or Kingswood ute/van with an XU4 option. The XU4 option may be on the RH side of the body plate of a Brisbane built vehicle (chassis number ending in B). The other way it shows up is in a reduced GVM/GVW on the ADR plate (driver's side plate with the chassis number on it) on vehicles built in any plant. Unless there is an error on the plates, the GVM/GVW will be approx. 2200kg (4850lb) for all HJ-HZ utes and vans unless the XU4 or XX7 options are applied. If the vehicle is XU4 it should have a GVM of approx. 1800kg (6cyl) or 1900kg (V8). If it's an XX7 it will be approx. 1850kg (6cyl) or 1950kg (V8) or 2000kg if it's a late HZ van. This also varies further for an XU4 or XX7 Kingswood.

For those interested, the XU4 option is the non-Sandman equivalent of the XX7 option, ie passenger tyres and hence GVW de-rating on a HJ/HX/HZ ute/van (yet to confirm XU4 existed on the HJ although I suspect it did).

If you have one of these, photos of the ID plates would be fantastic. I'm in the middle of writing a page for my website on Sandmans, and this is one of the missing links in the research. If you're not sure what your ute/van is email me and I'll help. Email address is on my website (see profile).

Byron
