I bet those people selling manuals dont have the manufacturer, or original authors permission to do so.
So in effect they are already selling pirated items.

Cheers,

Mick

If the books are out of copyright and/or the original publisher has gone out of business without a liquidator would not that make the info public domain?

The Scientific and Gregorys manuals that I have here state that the publisher owns the copyright with no mention of the vehicle maker.

I have seen a couple of the info discs floating around and they are poorly presented and hard to use, some the parts catalogues are good but they were copyright and got pulled apparently.

Gregorys manuals are not out of business or in liquidation. They were purchased by Haynes who also purchased Bookworks & they are very much still in business. Their head office (for Australia) is in Sydney.

I didnt say Gregorys was out of business. I said that they state in their publications that they hold copyright.

What I did say was that in the hypothetical situation that any publisher was no longer in business or under the control of a liquidator that said copyright may expire.

They hold copyright regardless of whether they say so in the book or not. The only way they would not hold copyright would be if they specifically said that the publication is not copyrighted and is free to copy

It came down to buyer not having cash in hand when bidding and seller misrepresenting the item.

Both are losers IMHO.

COD works for me when buying a car, you can still take your cash home if youre not happy with the item.

shows that when dealing with large amounts of money it pays to wait till you pick the goods up before laying out your cash.
I hope he remembers to put the appropriate feedback.
