Does anyone in the know have the answers on vinyl moisturising?
I'm researching and finding all sorts of conflicting opinions and companies peddling their miracle cures.

I slapped a generous amount of Armor-all on my dash one time and left it to soak in over night. The next day the dash had several cracks. MAKE SURE you polish it off immediately.

This is the problem.
Armorall is a petroleum based product and any petroleum or alcohol based conditioner will bugger vinyl eventually.

I seem to remember a product called "Vinyl Reviver" which seemed to do the job. Don't know if this is the same stuff, not petroleum based, anybody tried it? http://www.townandcountr...UTO-MAINTENANCE-PRODUCTS

My mistake, I didn't think his vinyl was no good,just he wanted to revive it.If its no good vinyl,dont use armor all.??..as a matter of fact ,if its no good ,replace it.use armor all ,and wipe it off.its not hard.(if your vinyl cracks it was no good anyway.like hq dashes..lol_) Jim in Adelaide...Hindsight is bad vision! If you do some research and look up the MSDS for armorall you will find it is 100% water soluble and has not fire risk at all. So if it still contains petroleum products they must be unique ones.

I have replaced my cracked dashpad Jim. The cracked one was regulary treated with armor all yet still ended up a thow away item. I just don't want the replacement to go down the same road.
I've used the old one as a test and applied dubbin, leather conditioner, and a wax based furniture restorer to see what happens. None are petroleum based and none contain silicone. I'm going to try baby oil too. It's not recommended but it people in the US have been having good results with it saying that the vinyl sucks up coat after coat until it's supple. I'll see what happens.
80569K it would be good to hear if anyone has used the Vinyl reviver. It contains silicone too which they say is good on rubber but bad for vinyl.
With the cost and rarity of 40yo interior bits and pieces it would be nice to know that what your putting on them is going to protect them

Baby oil is mineral oil so I would be dubious about that one.

They list the original on the website and the wipes. I use baby wipes to clean my interior in the prado but I wouldnt recommend it on something rare. I dont think it is possible to fix stuffed vinyl and it will all end up stuffed if it is in the sun all day everyday. I think the best way to look after vinyl is to keep the car in the shed.

Lanolin (Sheep wool oil) is the best, it contains no silicon and is not petroleum based , Trust me! been using it for year's! CHEERS!!

I've used linseed oil on an aged vinyl roof. Made is shine like a new one however it stank to high heaven on hot days and made a mess when rain made it run all over the paint and glass.
You could use it on a dash if you can put up with the smell.
Vandals and graffiti "artists" do everyone a favour and target parking meters and fixed speed cameras only. |

aero 303 is the way to go no silicone its great i had my hk monaro retrimmed in parchment pearl which is white pearl and very hard to keep clean i have cleaned it with aero 303 for the last 5 years and its as good as the day i had the car retrimmed
